Movie News for March 1

Matchflickers in the News
Denise Du Vernay, long-time Matchflicker and fellow columnist, branched out recently and posted an article on SideSplitter.comm.  Her article, The Day Twitter Gave Birth to Bart Simpson, is a in-depth analysis on one of the most controversial  dscussions facing our Modern Pop Culture today:

When was Bart Simpson born?

The article was written in rebuttal to an errorneous Twitter post regarding Bart Simpson's  birthday.  It's a must-read for any Simpsonologist, as Du refers to her loyal readers.

Denise, as most of us know,is the co-author of The Simpsons in the Classroom: Embiggening the Learning Experience with the Wisdom of Springfield. For tweets about The Simpsons, follow @Simpsonology. To find out what she had for breakfast and what she's watching, follow @duve.

Jane Russell Passes Away at 89
Iconic actress Jane Russell died Monday in her Santa Maria home due to respiratory problems. She was 89 at the time of her passing.

Jane Russell came to prominence in the late 40s and early 50s, reigning as one of America's most popular sex symbols of that time. She appeared in such hit movies as GENTLEMEN PREFER BLONDES, DOUBLE DYNAMITE, and MONTANA BELLE. Her last performance onscreen was in the television show "Hunter." She had continued singing and working for various causes in the weeks leading up to her death.

During her film career, Jane Russell founded WAIF, the Women's Adoption International Fund to facilitate U.S. adoptions of foreign orphans.

Jane Russell is survived by three grown children, a son-in-law and a daughter-in-law. She also had six grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren at the time of her death.

A service will be held to honor Jane Russell at Pacific Christian Church in Santa Maria, on March 23 at 11:00 a.m. A reception is scheduled to follow at 2:00 p.m.

In lieu of flowers, the family is asking the public to donate to:

Care Net Pregnancy & Resource Center
121 West Battles
Santa Maria, CA 93458

OR

CASA of Santa Barbara County
120 East Jones Street, Ste. 130
Santa Maria, CA 93454

GENTLEMEN PREFER BLONDES was released July 18th, 1953 and stars Jane Russell, Marilyn Monroe, Charles Coburn, Elliott Reid, Tommy Noonan, George Winslow, Marcel Dalio, and Taylor Holmes. The film is directed by Howard Hawks.

LOST BOYS 4 and TV Series Coming Soon
Warner Premiere is close to announcing LOST BOYS 4, the latest adventure in the on-going saga of The Frog Brothers (Corey Feldman and Jamison Newlander).

A TV series featuring The Frog Brothers is also in development, although plot details for both the upcoming sequel and this weekly show have not been divulged. Since these projects are very close to being officially announced, expect full details in the near future.

LOST BOYS 4 will be a follow-up to last year's LOST BOYS: The THIRST, which was released on Blu-ray and DVD October 12, 2010. We spoke with Corey Feldman back in October about the potential for LOST BOYS 4, and here's what he had to say.

"It wasn't everything that I wanted but as a creative piece of the puzzle, there were certainly things that I fought for and I got a few of those in. There are a few moments that I didn't get in but I think that we will have another opportunity if we do it again. Next time around hopefully we can incorporate even more stuff that I was looking to get in. I definitely don't want to be going backwards so I want to make sure that each time we do it, if we are going to do it again, its got to be bigger and better than the last one."

LOST BOYS 4 is in development and stars Corey Feldman, Jamison Newlander, Chance Michael Corbitt.

New PIRATES of the CARIBBEAN Trailer Contains Lots Of Swashing And Buckling
Much as nobody seemed all that interested in a fourth PIRATES of the CARIBBEAN movie when it first went into production last summer, the more we get a look at the movie it actually looks promising. The Super Bowl trailer showed off a lot of swashbuckling and not too much self-aware silliness, and now a longer trailer for the UK has shown up online that gives us a lot of the same. The framework is the direct camera address from Jack Sparrow that's been around at least since the summer, but cut in the middle is what looks like a lot of new footage. Honestly, it's kind of hard to tell what's new and what's not, but we definitely get good looks at the "zombies, cutthroats and mermaids" that Jack promises he'll encounter on his quest for the Fountain of Youth.

Check out the new video below, and let me know what you see in there that looks particularly new and exciting. PIRATES of the CARIBBEAN: On STRANGER TIDES hits theaters on May 20, and against all odds, I'm actually jazzed to see it.

Movie News March 2
Nicholas Hoult To Play A Zombie In WARM BODIES
If you don't already know the name Nicholas Hoult it won't be long until you do. After starring on the hit UK show "Skins," the actor caught many people's attention with his role in Tom Ford's A SINGLE MAN in 2009. Since then he's been cast in the role of Hank McCoy/Beast in X-MEN: FIRST CLASS and, most recently, landed the coveted title role in Bryan Singer's JACK the GIANT KILLER. He's certainly not done yet, though, as he's just been cast in another role.

A press release has been sent out announcing that Nicholas Hoult will now star in WARM BODIES, a film adaptation of the book by Isaac Marion. In the movie the actor will play R, a "existentially tormented zombie" who befriends the girlfriend of one of his victims. The relationship then begins to change the character and leads to a chain reaction that could affect the entire zombie world. Jonathan Levine, director of The WACKNESS, will write and direct the film.

Between this and the in-development BREATHERS: A ZOMBIE'S LAMENT, it would seem that the reanimated corpses falling in love is the new "it" thing for 2011. God forbid we ever get a version of TWILIGHT with zombies.

Quentin Tarantino's Next is a Western About Slavery
Just yesterday we heard a rumor that Quentin Tarantino may be working on his next feature film, a Western that may re-team the director with his Oscar-winning star of INGLOURIOUS BASTERDS Christoph Waltz.

Tarantino has already completed the script. Unlike BASTERDS and KILL BILL, which took a long time to come together, this one just flowed out of him. The plan is to deliver something to The Weinstein Company within two months and then immediately begin working toward a production start.

Looking back at old Tarantino quotes, there's a good chance that his new film will revolve around slavery. "I'd like to do a Western. But rather than set it in Texas, have it in slavery times," he said a year ago. "Do it as an adventure. A spaghetti Western that takes place during that time. And I would call it A Southern."

The year before that, Tarantino told Charlie Rose that he wants to make a biopic about revolutionary abolitionist John Brown. "He's my favorite American who ever lived," he said. "He basically single-handedly started the road to end slavery and the fact that he killed people to do it. He decided, 'If we start spilling white blood, then they're going to start getting the idea.'"

Channing Tatum Plotting PETER PAN BEGINS
Channing Tatum is one of the unlikely names said to involved with a pitch entitled PETER PAN BEGINS.
The film, currently looking for a studio buyer, is said to be an origin story for J.M. Barrie's fantastical sprite, though specifics are, at this point, unknown. If Tatum's involvement is in an acting capacity, it is unlikely that he would play Pan himself without a significant departure from the source material.

Alongside Tatum, the pitch includes writer Billy Ray (SHATTERED GLASS) and producer Joe Roth (ALICE in WONDERLAND).

The story of Peter Pan has been adapted on quite a few occasions, including, most famously, a 1953 Disney animated version. Alternate takes on the Barrie story have been offered in cases like Steven Spielberg's 1991 film HOOK, a sequel of sorts to the original tale. The literal origin of Peter Pan was also detailed on film in the 2004 biopic of Barrie, FINDING NEVERLAND, starring Johnny Depp in the lead.

TRANSFORMERS: DARK of the MOON Spoilers Revealed!
Yesterday, new photos from TRANSFORMERS: DARK of the MOON appeared in the pages of Empire Magazine, offering a first look at Sentinel Prime and the newly updated Optimus Prime. Inside the magazine, Michael Bay revealed some of the finer plot details, even lifting the veil on potential spoilers. One Transformers fan was nice enough to send in some of this information.

So beware! Below is a list of SPOILERS that might ruin some of the fun come opening day. Read at your own risk. Here is what Michael Bay promises from the upcoming third chapter of this popular saga.

    * There will be no sand.
    * There will be no dorky humor ("We wanted to make the movie much more serious, more adult.")
    * When a robot dies, it will actually die. And that death will be shown onscreen.
    * The robots will be given more 'weight' in the story ("They were missed in movie two. We've given them a strong back-story and pathos.")
    * Sentinel Prime is "A big brother and mentor to Optimus Prime".
    * The Ferrari is a Decepticon nicknamed Dreadbox.
    * Starscream and Shockwave will have new companions. "The scale on one of them is jaw dropping" - "It will be 'what the Hell was that thing?"
    * The Apollo 11 'incident' show in the teaser is a big government secret.
    * There will be no army. Chicago is left in the hands of the Autobots (but some heroes sneak in through the back-door so to speak).
    * The human gliders are used because they slip under the Decepticons' radar - as do humans - so they'll be the people who can hammer it to the 'Cons and create an opening for the Autobots.

Second Trailer For Kate Hudson Rom-Com SOMETHING BORROWED
Everyone quickly grab their thinking caps, it's time for a pop quiz (don't worry, you won't graded and it's only one question). Ready? Here it is: when was the last time that Kate Hudson made a film that was given overwhelmingly positive reviews? If you answered 2000's ALMOST FAMOUS then you are right on the money. In the eleven years since, Hudson hasn't made a film that has received more than 2 1/2 stars on Matchflick. Does this mean that SOMETHING BORROWED is absolutely guaranteed to be terrible? Absolutely not. But the look of the new trailer isn't helping any.

We've posted the second look at the rom-com, which appears to be as cookie-cutter as they come. In the movie Ginnifer Goodwin plays a young woman who misses out on her chance to be with the man of her dreams (Colin Egglesfield) and watches him become involved with her best friend (Hudson). But as Egglesfield and Hudson are about to get married, Goodwin makes out with him and everything goes nuts.

Check out the trailer below.

BLADE RUNNER Reboot Close To Becoming A Reality
This was inevitable. Previously there had been vague talks of a BLADE RUNNER sequel which director Ridley Scott seemingly wanted nothing to do with. Now, Alcon Entertainment is working towards buying rights to the sci-fi classic in order to line up a reboot.

Currently, Bud Yorkin has the rights to the property in his back pocket, but Alcon is very close to acquiring the rights from him. Yorkin, who was an executive producer on Scott's 1982 opus, intends to ditch the rights, but also will be sticking around as producer when the reboot finds its way to production. His wife Cynthia will co-produce the film.

It's never good news to hear that one of your favorite films could potentially be shamed by a bad remake, but there is a silver lining. Alcon may just be blowing smoke to quell the masses, but they've released a statement to ease everyone's nerves.

This is a major acquisition for our company, and a personal favorite film for both of us. We recognize the responsibility we have to do justice to the memory of the original with any prequel or sequel we produce. We have long-term goals for the franchise, and are exploring multi-platform concepts, not just limiting ourselves to one medium only.

BLADE RUNNER isn't a film that needs to be modernized, but a film that was that visually progressive in 1982 could potentially push the limits of film making today. Instead of bitching about "ruining a classic" sound off in the comments about who you'd like to see take the helm for this piece. Should it be someone who can really handle sci-fi like Neil Blomkamp? Or someone more over the top visually like Gaspar Noe?

Tom Hanks and Tim Allen Re-Team for JUNGLE CRUISE
TOY STORY 3 broke the $1 billion mark in theaters. But while Disney is deciding whether it's a good idea to develop a fourth installment, the studio has attached Tom Hanks and Tim Allen to JUNGLE CRUISE, the live-action film inspired by the Magic Kingdom theme park ride.

Disney has already hired Roger S.H. Schulman (SHREK, JUNGLE BOOK 2) to write the script. The project has been in the works for years, but now that Hanks and Allen are in talks, the plan is to make the film a priority.

A director has yet to be hired, but JUNGLE CRUISE will be produced by David Hoberman and Todd Lieberman, who were just nominated for a Best Picture Oscar for The FIGHTER.

Will Catwoman And Batman Team Up To Fight The League Of Shadows In DARK KNIGHT RISES?
The brain trust that surrounds Christopher Nolan as he prepares The DARK KNIGHT RISES is complex and impenetrable as ever. We've gotten a few shreds of information from the inside. They're hearing a few things from one reliable source, including that by the end of the movie Anne Hathaway's Catwoman will become one of Batman's allies, and that the two of them will be teaming up to fight the League of Shadows.

If that is in fact what the ending of the film will be, it's bringing the entire Nolan-directed trilogy full circle-- the League of Shadows is the organization fronted by Ra's al Ghul, that trained Bruce Wayne out in the wilderness before he became Batman and eventually came to Gotham City to take their revenge on him and all the overprivileged citizens. With Marion Cotillard probably playing Talia al Ghul, it makes sense for her to be coming back with the whole team of assassins. The Joseph Gordon-Levitt's character, still under wraps, will be part of the League somehow.

Now remember, any time you start thinking you know what's going on in a Nolan film, it's entirely possible that it will change, or even that it's fake information deliberately leaked by the crew. There's no knowing anything for sure, but that said, this sounds pretty convincing.

FIVE-YEAR ENGAGEMENT Gets Alison Brie
"Community" and "Mad Men" actress Alison Brie will star in the Universal Pictures comedy FIVE-YEAR ENGAGEMENT for producer Judd Apatow.

Alison Brie will play the sister of Emily Blunt's character in the comedy. Jason Segel will play Emily Blunt's longtime fiancee. The movie will follow the highs and lows of a long-term engagement. It is also said that Alison Brie will speak in a British accent for the project.

Nick Stoller will direct from a script he co-wrote with Jason Segel, who co-starred and co-wrote Nick Stoller's 2008 comedy FORGETTING SARAH MARSHALLJudd Apatow will produce FIVE-YEAR ENGAGEMENT with Shauna Robertson.

Production is scheduled to start towards the end of April, although it is unclear where filming will take place.

FIVE-YEAR ENGAGEMENT comes to theaters in 2012 and stars Jason Segel, Emily Blunt, and Alison Brie. The film is directed by Nick Stoller.

RESIDENT EVIL 5 comes to theaters September 14, 2012 and stars Milla Jovovich

.......I know, I know - I usually put a logo or a poster for the headline graphic, but, hey - it's Milla!

STAR WARS: EPISODE I: The PHANTOM MENACE in 3D Opening Feb. 10, 2012
Lucasfilm and 20th Century Fox announced the release date for STAR WARS: EPISODE I: The PHANTOM MENACE in 3D today:

Comic Book MILFs: Ma Kent AND Wonder Woman Villain cast
If you like sexy older women, you should officially put yourself on MILF alert.  Elizabeth Hurley will be filling the role of a villain in the future Wonder Woman TV show
while Diane Lane has been cast as Ma Kent in the upcoming SUPERMAN movie.

The next
SUPERMAN movie is currently untitled ... as is the character that Elizabeth Hurley will play in Wonder Woman.

The character of Ma Kent has traditionally been played by a silver-haired oldster, and Diane Lane is neither. In fact, she's the youngest woman ever to play the role; SFX was quick to point out "she's even younger than Annette O'Toole was when she started out in the role on 'Smallville.'" But director Zack Snyder is confident she can portray "wisdom" and "wonder" in the woman who's raising the Man of Steel.

According to Twitter, Hurley wrote, "Thrilled to be doing the NBC pilot "Wonder Woman." I'll be playing the evil villain. Can't wait." It was suggested she will be playing Veronica Cale, a mad scientist described as an analogue of Lex Luthor.

It will be months before we see Hurley strut her evil stuff, and almost two years before we see Lane playing mom to an alien foundling. We'll be waiting ... and the ones who are crushing on them will be waiting more eagerly than others.

First Trailer For British Alien Invasion Flick ATTACK the BLOCK
Later this month sees the release of two alien invasion movies. The first is BATTLE: LOS ANGELES, a heavy action film that is basically a war movie where the enemy happens to be extraterrestrials. The very next week, PAUL arrives in theaters, a funny buddy comedy involving an alien and a road trip. Now we have the first trailer for the British made ATTACK th BLOCK and it looks like it's somewhere in between.

We've posted first look at the film, which stars Nick Frost, Jodie Whittaker, Luke Treadaway, and newcomers John Boyega, Simon Howard, Franz Drameh, Leeon Jones, and Alex Esmail. Set in South London, a group of teenagers find themselves right in the middle of an alien invasion and take it upon themselves to fight back, no matter how scary it may be.

Movie News March 5

G.I. JOE 2 And HUGO CABRET Get Release Dates
It was only last week that Hasbro CEO Brian Goldner told MTV that while a "great idea" exists for G.I. JOE 2, they're in no hurry to get the film made as it isn't "really great" enough. Since that day, Paramount began talks with Jon M. Chu to direct the movie and Rachel Nichols, who played Scarlett in the first film, said that only Duke, Snake Eyes and Storm Shadow will be returning for the sequel. Not moving fast enough for you? Now the movie has a release date.

The studio has officially announced that G.I. JOE 2 - it's unclear if that will be the sequels final title - will be released on August 10, 2012. The report also seems to confirm comments made by Nichols that some characters won't be returning, saying that the movie "will likely undergo extensive casting changes." The same report also announced that Martin Scorsese's new film, the 3D adaptation of HUGO CABRET, will hit theaters on November 23, 2011 where it will compete with ARTHUR CHRISTMAS, The MUPPETS, The TODD PHILLIPS PRODUCED PROJECT X and RISE of the APES.

While the G.I. JOE sequel is the first to be announced for that week in August 2012, this Thanksgiving's schedule is looking seriously crowded. Expect one or more of those titles to move between now and November.

Kenneth Branagh To Direct Period Rowing Drama The BOYS In The BOAT
When it was announced that Kenneth Branagh would be the man to direct the comic book movie THOR, the world did a collective double take. After all, we're talking about a guy whose previous directorial efforts include mostly Shakespeare adaptations like HENRY V, HAMLET, LOVE'S LABOUR'S LOST, and MUCH ADO ABOUT NOTHING. Though we're still waiting to see how his venture into the world of comics turns out, his next project seems to be much more his speed.

The Weinstein Company has purchased the rights to Daniel James Brown's The BOYS In The BOAT and have signed Branagh to direct the film adaptation. The book is about the U of Washington rowing team in the 1930s and is described as "a cross between SEABISCUIT and CHARIOTS of FIRE." Speaking about his plans for the project, Branagh said,

"The BOYS In The BOAT is an epic. I was completely captivated by the characters, the era, and the dreams of a generation unfolding beautifully and dramatically."

To be perfectly frank, what I'm really hoping for from this project is that it is simply a two hour version of the Henley Regatta sequence from David Fincher's The Social Network. If they do that, I see 15 Oscars in their future.

21 JUMP STREET Gets Brie Larson
Brie Larson (SCOTT PILGRIM vs. The WORLD, "United States of Tara") has landed the female lead role in 21 JUMP STREET for 20th Century Fox.

Brie Larson will play Molly in this remake of the 1987 TV series "21 Jump Street." There wasn't a character named Molly on the original show, so it isn't known yet if she will play one of the detectives or a love interest to one of the characters. Jonah Hill, Channing Tatum, and Ice Cube have already signed onto star.

Phil Lord and Chris Miller will direct 21 JUMP STREET, from a script by Jonah Hill, Michael Bacall, and Joe Gazzam. The story centers on a group of Los Angeles detectives who go undercover and go back to high school.

It isn't clear when production will start on 21 JUMP STREET.

21 JUMP STREET comes to theaters in 2012 and stars Jonah Hill, Channing Tatum, and Ice Cube. The film is directed by Phil Lord, and Chris Miller.

Prepare Your Scuba gear: AVATAR 2 Will Be Set Underwater
Actress Michelle Rodriguez's tough-cookie pilot character may have died in AVATAR, but that didn't stop the actress from revealing where the second film would take place—namely underwater. And if the movie's 3-D is as convincing as the first film's, maybe we should all get our scuba gear ready. Just in case.

Promoting her new film BATTLE: LOS ANGELES, which is about an alien invasion, the 33-year-old actress revealed that James Cameron's highly anticipated follow-up to AVATAR would take place underwater, taking viewers under the oceans, and that it will be "extraordinarily beautiful."

However, the actress is unsure whether Cameron will bring her character back from the dead in any capacity for the follow-up to the highest-grossing movie in history, though he apparently did say that he would bring back those who had survived the first film in some form. There had been previous hints from Cameron that AVATAR 2 could perhaps take place on another planet from the same solar system as Pandora. There was also the possibility of taking the story into the oceans of Pandora, and this—according to Rodriguez—is the route the director seems to have likely chosen.

Filming underwater is a speciality of Cameron, who brought us TITANIC, the Titanic documentary GHOSTS of the ABYSS and most recently the underwater cave adventure SANCTUM 3-D.

What do you think? Are you ready to dive into the oceans of Pandora with Jake Sully (Sam Worthington) and Neytiri (Zoe Saldana)?

Kristen Stewart Confirmed for SNOW WHITE and the HUNTSMAN
As reported last month, Kristen Stewart is up for the role of Snow White in the fantasy adventure SNOW WHITE and the HUNTSMAN, where she will star opposite Viggo Mortensen as the Huntsman.

Screenwriter and co-producer of the movie Palak Patel took to his own personal Twitter account earlier today to announce that Kristen Stewart is in fact confirmed for the role, and it will be formally announced next week when the deal is officially closed.

As it is bad form to confirm something on Twitter before it is made public, Palak Patel quickly deleted his statements. But Kristen Stewart fans made sure to screen-grab them before they were gone, and you can check them out below.

"@cenup official conformation coming next week. But we are in final negotiations."

"KStew is officially playing Snow White and her deal is in final negotiations and will close next week."

Poster: Sam Worthington's The FIELDS Thriller
Today we have a promo poster for the upcoming The FIELDS crime thriller, starring Sam Worthington (AVATAR), Jeffrey Dean Morgan (WATCHMEN) and Chloe Moretz (KICK-ASS). Check it out to the left.  Click on the picture for a larger image

In the film Morgan stars as a detective transplanted from New York while Worthington portrays a local investigator probing a series of unsolved murders in industrial wastelands surrounding Gulf Coast refineries, where as many as 70 bodies have turned up over the past two decades. Together they wage a war against the unknown assailants.

The FIELDS is directed by Ami Canaan Mann, daughter of Michael Mann (HEAT). It is written by former DEA agent Donald F. Ferrarone and is set to hit theaters on July 16th.

Julianne Moore Joins The Cast Of ANOTHER NIGHT With Paul Dano And Robert De Niro
For me, one of the biggest mysteries of this past year's Oscars was that Annette Bening was nominated for her part in The KIDS ARE ALL RIGHT over Julianne Moore, who I felt put on the more important and better performance. Regardless, Moore has never been an actress that has needed tons of awards to keep her career going (her high talent level does that for her) and no she's landed yet another part.

Moore is set to play in Paul Weitz's ANOTHER NIGHT alongside Robert De Niro, Paul Dano, and Olivia Thirlby. Based on the memoir "Another Bullshit Night in Suck City" by Nick Flynn, the film is about the relationship between an estranged father and son, played by De Niro and Dano, who interact while the son is working at a homeless shelter in Boston. Moore will play Dano's mother and will only be seen in flashback sequences.

Julianne Moore's involvement alone is enough to make me think that this may be the first great movie De Niro has done in years. Weitz doesn't have the greatest track record - he was responsible for LITTLE FOCKERS - but with this cast and the Boston setting, it sounds like it will be hard to argue against.

Trailer For CAT RUN Looks Like Five Different Movies
If anyone is getting impatient waiting for PIRATES 4 to satisfy their Penelope Cruz urges, Paz Vega might be able to hold you over and the release date of her next movie, CAT RUN, is right around the corner.

Vega stars as an escort, a high class escort obviously, who steals a security camera hard drive from a client and goes on the run with evidence of some sort of scandal. She meets two quirky private investigators whom she hires to protect her from baddie Christopher McDonald, eternally known as Shooter McGavin to my generation, and an assassin on his payroll.

The trailer has to be misleading. At first it's serious, then it's funny, then it's a heist movie, then it's serious again, and at the end it's funny. Ultimately it seems like it's going to be a pretty fun movie, but the trailer is a little out of sorts. Check it out for yourself below or in glorious HD over at Apple.

March 8, 2011 Volume 1 Issue 1

Matchflick Movie News 1

The Only Movie Site on the Internet that Showcases It's Members as They Work on Movies!

Welcome to the First Issue of a Very Unique Magazine

Matchflick.com proudly unveils its boldest project -
Matchflick Movie Makers Magazine
!

Not content with just talking about movies, Matchflick is introducing an online magazine dedicated to our Matchflickers who are actually DOING movies.  It is tentatively scheduled for every other Tuesday, and it is planned to follow the journey of our resident movie makers, recording each unique and specific adventure in the workings of making a movie.  We're all very excited.  To our knowledge, there is no other venue like this for any movie site on the Internet.

Exclusive from the Set of  PIRANHACONDA!

Hide your kids, hide your wife, the island of Kauai has been invaded by the cast and crew of PIRANHACONDA!  Kauai has welcomed many films, from TROPIC THUNDER to PIRATES of the CARIBBEAN: On STRANGER TIDES and even DINOCROC vs SUPERGATOR. Executive Producer Roger Corman and Director Jim Wynorski have been busy taking aerial tours of Kauai by helicopter to scout new and exciting locations for the project.

Producer Forest King was on hand to welcome
PIRANHACONDA cast members Michael Madsen as Dr. Lovegrove and Rachel Hunter as Thalia.  King confirms that Madsen, a Quentin Tarantino favorite, is a stand up gentleman and truly a humble guy. He adds, "When you meet him, there is a calm he projects. You can feel there's something beneath the surface, an underlying depth in his character that makes you want to stay on his good side!"  That intensity definitely translates to the big screen in Madsen's performances.

King continues,
"Rachel Hunter is known worldwide for her beauty, outside and in.  The supermodel has traveled world wide a vocal advocate and champion of animal rights." Fans of Rachel Hunter will be excited to see her play a very different role than the usual "good girls" she portrays. Executive Producer Roger Corman, who has always displayed an unrivaled eye for talent over years, has worked closely with screenwriter Mike MacLean to craft  a very special role just for Hunter.

Rounding out the cast are  Michael Swan (The Bold and the Beautiful, Dinocroc vs Supergator) as Pike, Diana Terranova (Californication, Camel Spiders) as Jamie, Terri Ivens (All My Children) as Rose, Shandi Finnessey (Sharktopus, Dancing with the Stars) as Kimmy and Kurt Yaeger (Dolphin Tale, Camel Spiders) as Gunner.

PIRANHACONDA revolves around the battle with a creature "with razor sharp teeth and 100 feet of constricting power.  No release date has been set at this writing.

The  Ghostman Files

Matchflick's Resident Superhero Director Mike O'Dea (TOWNIES)
has reported this on his Facebook account:

"I went to the eye doctor on Wednesday to have my eyes examined so I can get a prescription for contact lenses for Ghostman. I have very good vision, so I don't need lenses to see better from. They taught me how to put demo contacts in and I tried on some demo colored contacts too. None of them were striking enough, so I will be getting the contacts from a special effects company and they'll look like they do in this photo (much like my eye on the Ghostman poster). I have to go back to the doctor in a week for a check up and then they will give me the measurements of my eyes to give to the SFX contacts makers. I'm supposed to be wearing my demo contacts all week and practicing with them. I can't believe what a big process I have to go through just to get non-prescription contacts. Anyway, I'll have the contacts pretty soon! When I get them, I'll show you what they look like on me."

Also, Mike has produced a video showcasing some of the equipment he's gotten for GHOSTMAN:

Word from the Dead

Frank was also proud to announce that the teaser trailer for NO TOMORROW has passed the 10,000 views mark.  He thanks all you loyal Matchflickers for your support.

Matchflick's Resident Zombie Expert and NO TOMORROW director Frank T. Ziede has been really busy preparing for his release date later this year, but he left this message to another fan:

"We are currently working on the second draft of the feature length script for the film. We are trying to get it done in a timely fashion while at the same time making sure we get it done right. We really want to tell the story of the Traveler in a compelling way. Once we get the script in shape our producer is going to go after funding this summer. That's it for now. Stay tuned and we'll keep you posted."

Frank was also proud to announce that the teaser trailer for NO TOMORROW has passed the 10,000 views mark.  He thanks all you loyal Matchflickers for their support.

Exclusive Poster for Joseph Kahn's DETENTION

You probably best known director Joseph Kahn as the man behind the delightfully terrible TORQUE, a movie even Kahn mocks in his new picture DETENTION.  The synopsis doesn't make much sense:

DETENTION, is a teen horror-comedy where the local students of Grizzly Lake must survive their final year of high school. Standing in their way is a slasher movie killer who has seemingly come to life. It becomes a race against time to stop the killer and save the world – if only they can get out of detention. The Detention cuts through prom. Most of them don't have dates anyway.

We've been sent the poster for the film and it features a drawing of a bear with a skull for a mouth.  Works for me.  Click on the poster for a larger image to check out the poster.  DETENTION premieres on Sunday, March 13 at the 2011 SXSW Film Festival.

Sylvester Stallone May Not Direct The EXPENDABLES 2
Ever since The EXPENDABLES became a hit at the box office last August, fans have been wondering about the sequel, specifically who would be added to the cast. But while we still don't know if Jean-Claude Van Damme or Chuck Norris will be joining the crew, one space just opened up: the director's chair.

The Los Angeles Times is reporting that after both helming and starring in the 2010 summer blockbuster, Sylvester Stallone has started taking meetings with other directors. Also unlike the first film, Stallone wasn't involved with the writing process, instead leaving it to David Agosto and Ken Kaufman (CURIOUS GEORGE, IN The ARMY NOW). The story comes from an unnamed source that was "briefed on the project but was not authorized to speak about it publicly." Millennium Films, the company behind the film, declined to comment.

Should this story be true you can expect a lot of hands to shoot up into the air volunteering for the gig. The first film made nearly $275 million at the global box office and the sequel, barring any major malfunctions, stands to make even more. Any young director would love to have The EXPENDABLES 2 on their resume.

TOMB RAIDER Reboot Coming in 2013
Producer Graham King (The TOWN, The DEPARTED) and his GK Films has acquired the feature film rights to TOMB RAIDER with plans of rebooting the franchise and releasing the first movie in theaters by 2013.

King recently produced The TOURIST, which starred Angelina Jolie. Many are wondering if Jolie may return to star as Lara Croft, but sources say that King is interested in telling Lara Croft's origin story rather than continue where the last installment left off.

A writer has yet to be hired.

LARA CROFT: TOMB RAIDER hit theaters back in 2001 and grossed $274 million worldwide on a $115 million budget. The sequel was released two years later and grossed $156 million on a $95 million budget.

VOLTRON: DEFENDER of the UNIVERSE Sparks a Bidding War
News of VOLTRON: DEFENDER of the UNIVERSE coming to theater screens has been kicking around for quite sometime, but now it seems the proposed live action-CGI adaptation of the popular animated series may becoming a reality. As a bidding war for franchise rights has begun, with Relativity Media leading the charge.

One of the reasons VOLTRON: DEFENDER of the UNIVERSE has taken so long to reach the big screen is because creator Peter Keefe compiled the original show from two different Japanese anime series, editing them together so that they would pass US broadcast standards. The show became a huge over-night hit, but Toei Animation, who produced the two original series from which Voltron was edited, wanted their share of the profits. Whenever VOLTRON: DEFENDER of the UNIVERSE got rolling at a Hollywood studio, Toei Animation would want to be payed.

This discrepancy was only recently worked out, and World Events Productions now has a brand-new Voltron cartoon premiering on Nicktoons in May.

If Relativity Media acquires the rights to make the big screen version of Voltron, it is not clear if they will distribute it themselves, or if they will co-produce with Paramount Pictures, who own Nicktoons. Development on the feature is moving along, and its likely that the film will be in theaters by 2013 or 2014, just in time for VOLTRON: DEFENDER of the UNIVERSE'S 30th birthday.

VOLTRON: DEFENDER of the UNIVERSE is in development .

Aubrey Plaza Joins The HAND JOB
Actress Aubrey Plaza ("Parks and Recreation") has signed onto star in the new comedy project The HAND JOB. Bill Hader, whose wife Maggie Carey wrote and will direct the movie, revealed the casting news during a recent interview, where he also revealed supporting cast members. Here's what Bill Hader had to say.

"The cast she got for it now is amazing. There's Alia Shawkat, Mae Whitman, Johnny Simmons, Donald Glover, Connie Britton, Andy Samberg, me... that'll be a cool thing to do together."
.
The story centers around Aubrey Plaza's character, a recent high-school graduate who tries to broaden her sexual horizons before college. Here's what Bill Hader said about the plot of this new comedy, and where the title comes from.

"It's about her (Aubrey Plaza) playing an type-A, studious girl who graduates high school and hasn't done anything with a guy. The summer before college she decides that she has to find out how to do everything in order to be properly prepared, so she makes a very serious bullet list of everything, like... hand-job, titty-job, blow-job, fingering, and just kinda checks one off every time she does it. She's being the aggressor and is very straight-forward about it, like 'Okay, so I'm going to give you a hand-job now.' And the guys are very taken aback about it, especially her straight-laced friends."

The HAND JOB comes to theaters in 2013 and stars Aubrey Plaza, Alia Shawkat, Mae Whitman, Johnny Simmons, Donald Glover, Connie Britton, Andy Samberg, and Bill Hader. The film is directed by Maggie Carey.

CBS Films To Distribute GAMBIT With Colin Firth
CBS Films has made five films since January 2010, and despite trying to reach all corners of the market they have yet to have a real solid opening. From EXTRAORDINARY MEASURES to BEASTLY none of their films have opened at number one on their respective weekend and while the latter film is still in theaters, none have been able to make more than $40 million domestically (The BACK-UP PLAN is their most successful film with a $37 million domestic take). Their newest acquisition, however, has something that none of their other films have brought to the table: Oscar Power.

Deadline is reporting that CBS Films has won the U.S. distribution rights for GAMBIT, the con-artist film written by Academy Award winners Joel and Ethan Coen and starring recent Oscar winner Colin Firth. Directed by Michael Hoffman, Firth will play an art curator who teams up with a "Texas steer roper" - played by Cameron Diaz - to bamboozle the richest man in England. The film is a remake of the 1966 Michael Caine-Shirley MacLaine film of the same name.

This movie should be a perfect litmus test for the young distributor. Considering the incredible amount of talent on display here, it should be easy to open this movie at number one, provided that they get the release date right. Let's hope they can do it.

50 Cent's THINGS FALL APART Trailer Hits The Net
Do you remember the flicks of a 160 lb. weighing 50 Cent?

Today, the unofficial trailer for the film, THINGS FALL APART, which features the thin rapper, hit the net. Last year, 50 Cent lost 54 pounds when he filming THINGS FALL APART in which he plays a University of Michigan football player. In the Mario Van Peebles directed film, Barnes, who dreams of getting drafted by the Miami Dolphins, is stricken by cancer during his senior year in college. The drama features Ray Liotta, Lynn Whitfield and more.

In an interview, last year, with Rap-Up Magazine, Curtis Jackson spoke briefly on what the film means to him. "My motivation for the project was my best friend, Charles Pringle. He lived across the street from me; he actually died of cancer."

Last Saturday , the film premiered at the Miami International Film Festival. "50 Cent's physical transformation combined with Mario's vision for the film kept the story fresh, gritty and powerful," Miami International Film Festival Executive Director Jaie Laplante told AllHipHop.com. "Fans in Miami will have a unique opportunity to see the film well before the rest of the world does."

Johnny Knoxville Is Moe In
The THREE STOOGES

Johnny Knoxville has been rumored as one of the frontrunners for the Farrelly Brothers' long-gestating The THReE STOOGES movie before only to be debunked the Farrellys themselves. And now Knoxville, apparently, has the role.

Variety says Johnny is on the verge of signing a deal with Fox that would have him as Moe, the lead in The THREE STOOGES movie. Their sources claim the part was offered to him and the Farrellys have been sitting around for awhile waiting on him to accept. So the question here is, were Peter and Bobby Farrelly lying or is something else going on here?

At the time the Farrelly's never said he wasn't involved exactly, they just said he wasn't a frontrunner. But if Knoxville has had this offer pending for awhile, he had to have been a leading candidate even back then. Could this be a case of Fox pushing him into the production over the Farrelly Brothers objection? He does seem like a complete departure from most of the other candidates up for the part, before the Farrelly's last movie flopped. Previously they'd targeted the likes of Benicio del Toro to take on the role. After the failure of their recently released comedy, HALL PASS, the latest in a string of Farrelly Brothers failures, you have to wonder how much pull those two actually have left.

Knoxville does have a talent for dishing out idiotic punishment to his friends. The entire JACKASS franchise is basically built on it and, dishing out punishment to his friends is kind of Moe's role in the Stooges trifecta. The key point here is that this movie is finally moving again. The THREE STOOGES fell into development hell and clawed their way back out again. Maybe it'll even be good.

New Illustrated Poster For Takashi Miike's 13 ASSASSINS
You don't see many samurai films these days. Akira Kurosawa basically built the genre in the 40's and 50's and filmmakers are still struggling to catch up. One director about to take a stab at it is Takashi Miike, whose next film 13 ASSASSINS will hit VOD March 25th and theaters April 29th.

A fresh new illustrated poster for the film has appeared over at Cinematical looking more like the cover of a graphic novel than a poster. Presumably the lone warrior pictured is one of the 13 samurai that band together in hopes of overthrowing an evil lord. The image seems like a mix of traditional and modern art styles combining to create a unique but effective look for the poster.

Miike's films frequently find their way into the American horror mainstream. His films like AUDITION, ICHI the KILLER and GOZU are all classic films you'll probably recognize. His films are masterfully crafted and 13 ASSASSINS looks to be no different.

Scope out the poster below and be ready to pick up your swords when the film hits later this month.

De Niro  Confirms Team-up with Scorsese for The IRISHMAN
This will be the ninth time the pair - famous for movies including TAXI DRIVER and GOODFELLAS - will reteam for a project, with Joe Pesci and Al Pacino also on board for roles.

Discussing the film, based on the novel by Charles Brandt, De Niro said: "It's a movie based on a book called 'I Heard You Paint Houses'.

"It's about a guy who is - and I believe the book - says he's now passed away, but he confessed that he killed Hoffa and also Joe Gallo over here on Hester Street. And so I'm going to play that character, Joe Pesci's gonna be in it and Al Pacino is going to be in it and Marty's going to direct it."

De Niro will portray Frank Sheeran, a former union leader who becomes a hitman.
GANGS of NEW YORK scriptwriter Steve Zallian has written the script, which Scorsese said last year could shoot in 2011.

Cameron + Del Toro + Gaiman = $300 ,Million Epic Chinese Trilogy?
Does it even matter what they're working on, given the trio's Oscar-winning, dream-summoning, monster-mashing resume? Well, since you asked, it's a $300 million adaptation of a 500-year-old Chinese folk legend. Yes, that feeling is your interest getting piqued.

Gaiman has been hired by Chinese TV producer Zhang Jizhong to write JOURNEY to the WEST, a planned film trilogy that would tell of the Monkey King, who traveled from China to India in search of Buddha's scrolls and brought a monk, a pig spirit and a fish spirit along with him.

Cameron is on board in an advisory capacity—consulting with Gaiman on the story and helping the production with the technical aspects of shooting in 3-D. As for Del Toro, Zhang has made overtures to the director, who seems to be receptive:

"[He] has shown a lot of interest but he wants to see the treatment first. Obviously the more celebrated the director, the busier they are."

JOURNEY to the WEST will be shot in English, using a cast of both Western and Chinese actors. Gaiman is mindful of how precious this legend is to the people of China, but he's jazzed at the project's potential:

"There is nothing inherently Greek about The Odyssey. These are big stories that work with people. There are 2,000 pages filled with adventures. The delight and the challenge is to write a story that for 1.4 billion people is in their DNA."

QUARANTINE Sequel Trailer
The Blu-ray version of Dwayne Johnson's FASTER contains the trailer for QUARANTINE 2: TERMINAL. We now have that trailer here for you, unfortunately the only way someone could get it online is by recording it off their TV.

The new sequel is written and directed by John Pogue (US MARSHALLS writer), and stars Mercedes Masohn, Josh Cooke, and Bre Blair. It will head straight to DVD/Blu-ray later this year.

Plot: The story starts right after the events of the previous film at LAX, as passengers board a flight to Nashville. When a passenger becomes violently ill with a mysterious rabies-like virus, the plane makes an emergency landing at a large metropolitan airport. Jenny (Masohn), a heroic yet inexperienced flight attendant, takes charge of the safety of her passengers.

Relieved when a swarm of heavily equipped emergency vehicles, police units and the CDC arrive, Jenny and the passengers soon discover that they have been quarantined and are now trapped. Desperate to escape, Jenny enlists the help of one of the surviving passengers, a kindergarten teacher, Henry (Cooke), to devise a plan to survive.

Open Auditions Being Held For Major Role In ROCK of AGES
One former "American Idol" contestant, Constantine Maroulis, has already moved on from that show to even bigger fame as Drew Boley in "Rock of Ages." Now with that Broadway show moving over to film, it might be time for another one to do it. THR reports that director Adam Shankman has scheduled an open casting call for Saturday, March 26 to find the right actor for the part, a young man who falls for Julianne Hough's character Sherrie to the tune of a lot of hair metal songs.

Maroulis himself had admitted he wanted the movie part-- "Obviously, I feel like this is my part and I've done all the work and I feel like I've done a lot to bring the show to this sort of level of success"-- but given that Maroulis is 36 and the casting call is open to actors ages 18-25, it's likely he was simply too old to get the part. PASSION PLAY Set for Theatrical Release
Image Entertainment has just announced that the ensemble indie thriller, PASSION PLAY will received a limited theatrical release on May 6th in New York and LA. Featuring an ensemble cast headlined by Bill Murray, Megan Fox, and Mickey Rourke (and more), the film was originated slated to head direct to DVD. That release is still currently planned to hit on May 31st.

The official press release for the theatrical run is as follows:

On May 6th, Image Entertainment launches PASSION PLAY, a daring, seductive thriller that spans from film noir's shadowy depths to the bright hope of redemption. Written and directed by Mitch Glazer (screenwriter of The RECRUIT and SCROOGED), the film boasts a heavenly cast including Academy Award® nominees Mickey Rourke and Bill Murray, Megan Fox, Rhys Ifans, Kelly Lynch, and former UFC sensation, Chuck Liddell. The film made its debut this past fall at the Toronto International Film Festival. PASSION PLAY will begin its theatrical roll-out in New York and Los Angeles and will follow with a platform release strategy.

Nate Poole (Rourke, The WRESTLER, IRON MAN 2) is a washed-up jazz musician fleeing from trigger-happy gangster Happy Shannon (Murray, LOST In TRANSLATION). While on the run, Nate stumbles across a traveling carnival, and is instantly mesmerized by the carnival's prized attraction, Lily "The Bird Woman" (Fox, TRANSFORMERS). But Lily is no carny fake: her wings are real. The fugitive musician falls in love with this angelic creature, and he convinces her to leave with him, to the anger of her ruthless employer (Ifans, NOTTING HILL). The two flee across the desert, but towards... what? Their destruction? Their salvation?

Combining realism and myth, PASSION PLAY is a portrait of humanity at its best and worst. Gritty and hard-boiled, it is also an adult fairytale that promises hope in the most unlikely of places.

And...cut! Credits Roll on Steven Soderbergh's Career in Movies
Steven Soderbergh, one of Hollywood's best-known directors, as deft at making blockbusters as he is small arthouse films, is to quit filmmaking.

The director, whose work includes the OCEAN'S ELEVEN franchise and OUT of SIGHT, said in a US radio interview broadcast that his next two movies will be his last. Soderbergh is set to work on LIBERACE, a forthcoming biopic of the flamboyant entertainer, and MAN from U.N.C.L.E., a film version of the famous 1960s TV series, before quitting. He said the two films were, "a great way to sort of step off".

"When you reach the point where you're like, if I have to get into a van to do another scout I'm just going to shoot myself, it's time to let somebody else who's still excited about getting in the van, get the van," he told the weekly radio programme Studio 360. Soderbergh, 48, was born in Georgia in 1963, and began experimenting with film equipment in high school. His first major success came aged 26 with his directorial debut, 1989's SEX, LIES and VIDEOTAPE, which made him the youngest-ever winner of the Palme D'Or at Cannes. On receiving the award he declared "it's all downhill from here."

He won praise in 2000 as the director of ERIN BROCKOVICH, with Julia Roberts as the eponymous secretary-heroine. TRAFFIC, a $50m (£31.2m) production released in 2000, was as ambitious as it was critically well-received, and was shot in seven cities with over 100 speaking parts, almost a third of them in Spanish. He was nominated as Best Director in the 2001 Oscars for both films – winning for Traffic. Soderbergh said he planned to shelve such outings in favour of painting or photography. "It's just time," he said. "It's just a sense of having been there before. The making of any art is problem solving, and as you work at it, you're able to eliminate the versions that aren't any good faster, but at a certain point the salves sort of become the same."

The LIBERACE biopic will see Michael Douglas play the titular pianist, while Matt Damon will assume the role of Liberace's companion, Scott Thorson. George Clooney is set to join the cast of MAN from U.N.C.L.E.

"When I started feeling like I've done this shot before, I've done a scene that's about this before, that's when I started thinking seriously about a shift," Soderbergh concluded. "But also I don't want to leave you know, when you see those athletes hang on one or two seasons too long, it's kind of sad."

Two-Face May Return in The DARK KNIGHT RISES?
Two-Face was killed at the end of The DARK KNIGHT ... wasn't he? But if so, how come Aaron Eckhart, who brought Harvey Dent's alter ego to life in that 2008 film, was being so coy when pressed about it during an interview for Battle: Los Angeles?

Aaron Eckhart has been saying that he will not return as Harvey Dent/Two-Face in The DARK KNIGHT RISES, but now during an interview with CBS, the actor is hinting that there might be a role for him in the movie after all.

CBS asked: "Just to be clear, we're not going to see Harvey Dent ever again, not in a flashback, someone's imagination. You're not returning to that role, right?"

Eckhart responded coyly: "I'm not?" When pressed further, the actor added: "I could not possibly say."

It's possible that Eckhart is tired of answering that question and is just playing around, but it's also possible that Christopher Nolan may want him back.

ROBOCOP to get rebooted by screenwriter of failed DUNE remake
You're supposedly one of Hollywood's hottest screenwriters, and you get a chance to reboot DUNE. But what happens when that fails to take off? You get a shot at writing a ROBOCOP remake instead.

That's the strange case of screenwriter Josh Zetumer, who has built a reputation as one of the best new writers in the business without having a single full script produced for the screen yet. According to Deadline, MGM has now hired him to write a new version of the 1987 sci-fi classic for recently hired Brazilian director Jose Padilha.

Zetumer first got onto the Hollywood radar when his script INFILTRATOR made it onto the "Black List"—an annual roundup of the best unproduced screenplays in Hollywood. Following that, he got a job with Paramount to write DUNE, which was supposed to be directed by Peter Berg (who's now doing the upcoming BATTLESHIP). Zetumer wrote several drafts of DUNE before that project went on the back burner, and for good measure he also wrote a fourth BOURNE movie that also went unproduced.

Zetumer has also done rewrites on the James Bond thriller QUANTUM of SOLACE and this summer's alien invasion film The DARKEST HOUR, but he has yet to have an official screenplay credit show up onscreen.

Now, that goes on all the time, so it doesn't necessarily mean he's not talented or can't deliver the goods. The ROBOCOP remake has been in development for years (Darren Aronofsky of BLACK SWAN fame was going to direct at one point), but MGM's cash troubles halted the project for a while. Now it's back on track, with Padilha and Zetumer on board, and hopefully we'll get to see what all the fuss is about for the latter when this thing comes out in 2013.

Huston Joins Cage As He Tries To Find His Daughter In MEDALLION
What do coaches tell professional athletes in the middle of a cold streak? Think about the fundamentals, get back to basics, we still have confidence in you. The same message should ring true for actors with a few flops in a row. Trying new things is great, but in times of trouble, it's always best to steer your way out using what's worked before, and for Nicolas Cage that's a big budget action film that's approximately forty percent too ridiculous to actually happen. DRIVE ANGRY 3D and that Witch one went a little too far, but this new scaled-back project MEDALLION should do the trick, especially now that Danny Huston is on board.

If you, like most people, didn't see last year's WARRIOR'S WAY, you missed out on a truly epic villain performance from Huston. Murdering, raping and slaying ninjas, he was a true original, and with any luck director Simon West will let him go for it in MEDALLION too. According to IndieWire, the actor has officially boarded the thriller, which will see West reteam with his CON AIR star Nic Cage. The plot follows a criminal (Cage) as he enlists his partner (Malin Akerman) to find his kidnapped daughter hidden somewhere in the trunk of a taxi cab. Asses will be kicked, heads will roll and hopefully, people will shell out to see it.

MEDALLION is about to start shooting in New Orleans. There's no official release date, but if it ends up being as good as it could be, next summer is probably a good guess.

J.K. Simmons to Narrate Jason Reitman's YOUNG ADULT
Earlier today, ComingSoon.net had a pleasant chat with actor J.K. Simmons about his starring role in the upcoming drama The MUSIC NEVER STOPPED --we'll have that full interview next week--but inevitably, the conversation got around to what else he had been working on.

Simmons is just three weeks away from shooting the seventh and final season of "The Closer," which will be extended to 21 episodes, but having appeared in all three of Jason Reitman's films (as well as JENNIFER'S BODY, produced by Reitman), we wondered if Simmons had a chance to film anything for YOUNG ADULT, Reitman's second film directed from a Diablo Cody script after the Oscar-nominated JUNO. Simmons had the plum role of playing the title character's father in that one.

"Not unlike TRUE GRIT with the Coen Brothers, you will not see me in YOUNG ADULT. but you will hear me," he told us. "They asked me to do the voice-over when they were in post-production and then Jason asked me to do the voice-over in 'YOUNG ADULT, because at this point, I'm his good luck charm. I've been in every feature he's directed."

Simmons has just gotten back from New Orleans where he had an undisclosed role in Mark Wahlberg's upcoming Universal thriller CONTRABAND by Baltasar Kormakur, and he also appeared in his wife Michelle Schumacher's directorial debut GEEZERS!, a raunchy independent comedy.

Look for our full interview with J.K., including some thoughts on the SPIDER-MAN  reboot, before The MUSIC NEVER STOPPED opens in select cities on March 18.

TRON: The NEXT DAY Leaked Online!
We've been hearing that the upcoming TRON LEGACY Blu-ray will include a teaser trailer for TRON 3. It turns out that the teaser is actually a 10-minute "epilogue," entitled TRON: The NEXT DAY.

Even though TRON LEGACY won't appear in stores until April 5th, the video has already made its way online. It explains the origins of the Flynn Lives organization and what happens with Sam at the end of LEGACY. And it even includes a scene with Ram (Dan Shor) and Alan Bradley (Bruce Boxleitner). Check everything out below.

Unless something changed, there should be two other videos on the TRON LEGACY Blu-ray. The first features Quorra (Olivia Wilde) arriving at the ENCOM building on Sam's Ducati, telling the press that she has spoken to Kevin Flynn yesterday.

The third is an interaction between Edward Dillinger (played by David Warner in original TRON) and his son (played by Cillian Murphy in "Tron Legacy") about how everything is going as planned.

Bobcat Goldthwait Directing GOD BLESS AMERICA
Comedian Bobcat Goldthwait, who rose to fame in the 80s with crazy characters like Zed in the POLICE ACADEMY franchise and ONE CRAZY SUMMER'S Egg Stork, has proven himself to be a prolific talent behind the camera as well, helming the darkly comic masterpieces SHAKES the CLOWN, WINDY CITY HEAT, and WORLD'S GREATEST DAD.

It was announced recently on "The Adam Carolla Show" that Bobcat Goldthwait has found his next project, which will be produced through Darko Pictures. The comedy is titled GOD BLESS AMERICA, and it involves spoiled teenagers and a killing spree. About this dark road trip that Bobcat Goldthwait may be taking soon, the comedian stated the following.

"There's a middle aged guy and he's at home watching a show like "My Super Sweet 16", you know that show?...there's always a horrible kid who gets everything she wants..."I wanted an Escalade! You ruined everything!" So he's sitting at home watching a show like that, and he drives 400 miles and kills that girl - spoiler alert! - and then her friend, well not a friend, a classmate, is going "did you kill Chloe?" and he doesn't say anything, and she goes "awesome." So then they get in this stolen Camaro and drive around and kill people. We're hoping for a Christmas release."

There are no further details about GOD BLESS AMERICA at this time. We will make sure to update you as soon as that information becomes available.

GOD BLESS AMERICA is in development . The film is directed by Bobcat Goldthwait.

Rodriguez To Play Bosley In "Charlie's Angels" Revamp
Movie star Ramon Rodriguez has confirmed he'll be portraying Bosley in the upcoming "Charlie's Angels" TV revamp.

The BATTLE: LOS ANGELES star will take over the role played by Bernie Mac, Bill Murray, and David Doyle in the new TV series.

He joins Angels Minka Kelly, Rachael Taylor, and Annie Ilonzeh for the remake, and tells MovieHole.net he's getting into shape to play a more physical Bosley.

He explains, "I'm doing martial arts right now and he's (Bosley) also a techie, and I'm a bit of a techie, so that's cool, but it's mostly martial arts."

Rodriguez insists he has been preparing to play Bosley his whole life - because he grew up with three sisters.

He adds, "They watched the show, so they got more excited than I did when I found out I was playing Bosley. They were freaking out."

TIM and ERIC'S BILLION DOLLAR MOVIE Lands Distributor
Now filming in Los Angeles, TIM and ERIC'S BILLION DOLLAR MOVIE has secured U.S. distribution through Magnolia Pictures.

A quasi-spinoff of their popular television series "Tim and Eric Awesome Show, Great Job!", the film's plot finds the pair given a billion dollars to create their own film with complications rapidly ensuing.

The official press release jokes about the film's record-setting budget:

The billion dollar price tag is far and away the most money paid for any film, more than three times the reported budget of AVATAR. With 2929 Productions, Gary Sanchez Productions (run by Will Ferrell, Adam McKay, and Chris Henchy) is producing through its "Funny or Die Films" adjunct banner. GSP has produced such films as The GOODS, The FOOT FIST WAY, and the Will Ferrell-Mark Wahlberg cop comedy The OTHER GUYS.

Under their Abso Lutely Productions banner, Tim Heidecker and Eric Wareheim have produced five seasons of their popular experimental comedy show "Tim and Eric Awesome Show, Great Job!" for Cartoon Network's Adult Swim. In addition to TEASGJ, they have created the television show "Tom Goes to the Mayor" for Adult Swim, as well as the online comedy titles "Tim and Eric Nite Live" and "Stephen and Steven" for Superdeluxe and Comedy Central. Dave Kneebone and Jon Mugar will be producing for Abso Lutely Productions.

"We were initially apprehensive of the unprecedented price tag of the film," Wagner jokes of the "billion dollar" budget involved, "but apparently we agreed to it after having a drink with Tim and Eric. Actually, it's all a little bit fuzzy. Regardless, we now realize that it would be foolhardy not to participate in what is sure to be the grandest entertainment ever presented to mankind."

"You can't put a price on creative excellence and we didn't... maybe we should have, but we didn't," says Ferrell.

"There are six billion people in the world," adds McKay, "so if we can get every sixth person to see this movie, we break even. If they tell a friend, we'll do well, quite well."

William Atherton, Will Ferrell, Will Forte, Zach Galifianakis, Jeff Goldblum, Robert Loggia, and John C. Reilly are all confirmed for at least cameo appearances, but many more surprise performances are still expected.

Fredrik Bond Will Direct Zac Efron In An Action Comedy
I'm still a firm believer in the starpower and longevity of Zac Efron, but jeez, the guy has not made it easy lately. His last movie CHARLIE St. CLOUD was a huge dud-- like, made less money than SCOTT PILGRIM dud, and boring to boot-- and though he's been signing on to various projects here and there in the meantime, the only things he's actually shot are a starring role in a Nicholas Sparks novel adaptation (The LUCKY ONE and a part in the massive, bound-to-be-awful rom-com NEW YEAR'S EVE. Listen, Zac, I can't watch my old DVD of HAIRSPRAY forever; eventually you're going to have to give us another reason to like you.

Now, hopefully, he's throwing me and my kind a bone. According to a press release from Mandate Pictures, Efron will officially be replacing Shia LaBeouf in an untitled romantic action film, formerly known as The NECCESARY DEATH of CHARLIE COUNTRYMAN. Fredrik Bond, a Swedish commercials director who at one point was being considered to direct something called HOVERCAR 3-D, has signed on direct the script by Matt Drake. Efron plays an everyday American kid who travels to Eastern Europe and falls for a local girl, only to be challenged by her criminal ex. As the press release describes it:

Armed with little more than his wit and naive charm, Efron endures one bruising beat down after another in order to woo the girl he loves and achieve salvation.

Weirdly that sounds a lot like the plot of SCOTT PILGRIM somehow-- maybe Efron was inspired by a fellow underachiever from summer 2010. The press release describes the untitled project as a "priority project" for Mandate, so hopefully by the time NEW YEAR'S EVE makes it to theaters, we'll at least know when to look for this one as a potential palate cleanser.

BLITZ Red Band Trailer
The second trailer for Jason Statham's blissed-out action-extravaganza BLITZ has arrived, and this time we are offered a brutal Red Band depiction of director Elliott Lester's upcoming thriller. In the movie, Jason Statham plays a whacked-out cop on the trail of a serial killer who is targeting other members of the police force. Check out this new unrated footage in the clip below (but only if you are over the age of 18; if you are any younger turn back now!)

BLITZ comes to theaters in 2011 and stars Jason Statham, David Morrissey, Luke Evans, Paddy Considine, Aidan Gillen, Chris Wilson, Nicky Henson, and Taya De La Cruz. The film is directed by Elliott Lester.

Radha Mitchell and Sean Bean Return for SILENT HILL Sequel
The sequel to SILENT HILL, called SILENT HILL: REVELATIONS 3D is currently shooting in Toronto and now comes word that the stars of the first film, Radha Mitchell, Sean Bean and Deborah Karan Unger, will return to reprise their roles. We also have the first photo of Mitchell from the new movie. Check it out by clicking on the image to the left.

They join the cast that's already comprised of Adelaide Clemens (X-MEN ORIGINS: WOLVERINE) and Kit Harington ("Game of Thrones"). REVELATIONS is directed by Michael Bassett (Solomon Kane).

Plot: For years, Heather Mason (Clemens) and her father have been on the run, always one step ahead of dangerous forces that she doesn't fully understand. Now on the eve of her 18th birthday, plagued by terrifying nightmares and the disappearance of her father, Heather discovers she's not who she thinks she is. The revelation leads her deeper into a demonic world that threatens to trap her in Silent Hill forever.

David Slade Will Direct A DAREDEVIL Reboot For Fox
The latest superhero to be at the center of a reboot not even a decade after the first film will be DAREDEVIL, and David Slade will be the director making it happen. According to Variety Fox has brought on the 30 DAYS OF NIGHT and The TWILIGHT SAGA: ECLIPSE director to handle the untitled project which is described as a "continuation" of the superhero story, but won't refer to anything from the 2003 DAREDEVIL starring Ben Affleck.

With new takes on the X-MEN coming this summer, a new SUPERMAN and SPIDER-MAN coming in the next few years and everything from ROBOCOP to the FANTASTIC FOUR slated for reboots sometime in the near future, it should come as no surprise that be DAREDEVIL-- one of the few Marvel heroes not owned by Disney as part of their Marvel partnership, and one that likely would have reverted to Fox soon had they not made a new film-- is falling victim as well. But anyone who wanted to argue against Mark Harris's recent claim that originality is really and truly dead in Hollywood will have a hard time getting around this news. Despite the fact that be DAREDEVIL was already at the center of one unsuccessful big-budget movie, Fox is relying on the character as a tested property, something they're far more likely to spend money on than, say, something original or not remotely connected to a comic book.

Hopefully there are enough hardcore "Daredevil" fans out there to be excited by this news, because from where I stand, this is just another lame attempt to juice the superhero genre and milk money out of a character that, not even ten years ago, audiences conclusively stated they weren't all that interested in. Talk me down, or join my misery, in the comments.

Tom Hanks to Star in Somali Pirate Story
Tom Hanks is attached to star as high-seas hero Capt. Richard Phillips in a movie about the rescue of crewmen from an American ship captured by Somali pirates.

Columbia Pictures picked up the life rights to Phillips, as well as his book "A Captain;s Duty," in spring 2009. The goal is to retell the story of the captain of the trading vessel Maersk Alabama who, in order to save his crew, surrendered to Somali pirates after his ship was hijacked.

The standoff, which commanded worldwide attention, tested the strength of Phillips and his crew as well as the resolve of the Navy commanders and President Barack Obama to bring Phillips home alive.

The project, with a script by Billy Ray, is being produced by the team behind The SOCIAL NETWORK, including producer Scott Rudin and actor Kevin Spacey.

Hanks just began shooting the Rudin-produced adaptation of Jonathan Safran Foer's 2005 novel, "Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close." He returns to theaters in July with LARRY CROWNE.

Ben Stiller Says ZOOLANDER 2 is Already Filming
Fans have been waiting for a ZOOLANDER sequel for years, but Paramount Pictures never felt comfortable investing in a follow-up to a movie that never became a major hit. But then Justin Theroux (IRON MAN 2, TROPIC THUNDER) wrote a script for ZOOLANDER 2 and things started moving forward.

Now in an interview with Closer magazine, Ben Stiller has revealed that the sequel is already in production. "We're filming the ZOOLANDER sequel at the moment," he said. "Derek is going to be back bigger and better than before - no catwalk is safe!"

Stiller added that Owen Wilson will also return to reprise his role. "It's ten years later and most of it is set in Europe," he explained. "I don't want to give away too much, but it's basically Derek and Hansel ten years later."

GHOST RIDER: SPIRIT of VENGEANCE Has Johnny Whitworth as Blackout
Actor Johnny Whitworth was recently doing press for his new movie LIMITLESS, where he revealed that he is playing Blackout in the upcoming GHOST RIDER: SPIRIT of VENGEANCE. We reported back in October that Johnny Whitworth signed on for GHOST RIDER: SPIRIT of VENGEANCE, although we didn't know he would play Blackout. Here's what he had to say about the character.

I play the villain who, at the beginning, up until like page 70, I am, for all intents and purposes, human. I'm not a very nice guy. I'm bad. I get turned into, for those who read :Ghost Rider," the character Blackout. I get turned into him by the devil to complete my job. That gives me the fortitude to fight Ghost Rider and the supernatural ability to compete, on some level, with that guy.

He also talked about shooting in Romania and Turkey for four months on the high-powered sequel.

It was fantastic. We went to places that were so outstanding and beautiful, in both countries. You would more than likely not plan your vacation to go there, because you wouldn't know about it, not because you wouldn't want to be there. I feel very blessed to have gone on this journey and, if it makes any sense to you, I feel like a better human being from having done it. I learned a lot about myself, a lot about the world, and a lot about making action movies.

MOONWALKING With EINSTEIN To Be Adapted For The Big Screen
MOONWALKING With EINSTEIN: The ART and SCIENCE of REMEMBERING EVERYTHING is a non-fiction book following science journalist Joshua Foer as he covers the U.S. Memory Championship, and eventually goes on to learn the so-called tricks of the trade to remembering, well, everything and compete in and win the competition himself. This doesn't sound all that crazy, a bunch of guys remembering what's on the back of cards, right? Nope.

These are professionals. One man, current memory champion Ben Pridemore, can remember 1,528 digits in the order in which they appear in under an hour, according to the Amazon description of the book. That's unreal. Most of us know 3.14159...and then we give up. Six digits! 1,528 is astonishing.

/Film has it that Columbia has picked up the rights to MOONWALKING With EINSTEIN and will be shepherding it along to the big screen. Doug Belgrad, President of Columbia Pictures made a statement in the press release that makes this film out to be more philosophical than you might imagine.

This is a very special book which transcends the already fascinating subject of memory. By explaining in personal and entertaining fashion a great deal about how our brains work, Joshua has written a book that sheds light on how memory is connected to humanity.

Whether or not we'll feel enlightened after we see this will be determined, but it's definitely an intriguing idea and will probably inspire quite a few people to start strengthening their minds rather than their Excel databases. More on this as it comes to us.

Kevin Costner Will Play Jonathan Kent In Zack Snyder's SUPERMAN Reboot
Back in February, the internet nearly exploded when it was reported that director Zack Snyder was looking at Kevin Costner to play Superman's earthly father, Jonathan Kent. At that time it was nothing more than speculation, but fans largely agreed that it was inspired casting, Costner having spent much of his career building the necessary gravitas to play that type of character. Now it's all but 100% official.

Deadline is reporting that a deal with Kevin Costner to play Pa Kent in Snyder's SUPERMAN reboot has been closed. The actor is now the third signed on to the film, the first being Henry Cavill, who landed the lead role back in late January, and Diane Lane, who will play Costner's wife, Martha Kent, in the movie. Based on a screenplay by David S. Goyer and produced by Christopher Nolan and Emma Thomas, the project is scheduled to go into production this summer and is targeting a December 2012 release date.

In the month that has passed this this rumor was first started my opinion about this casting has not changed: I think it's fantastic. While I still believe that he could have made a great Perry White as well, I can already imagine Costner and Cavill sitting down together on a porch in Smallville discussing destiny. This is a win.

Taylor Swift Will Speak For The Trees In The Lorax
Animated films that rely on star power tend to boast the most random casts imaginable, and The LORAX is living up to that reputation admirably. The production from Universal's Illumination Entertainment (the people behind DESPICABLE ME) already has Danny De Vito on board to voice the title character, the creature who "speaks for the trees" in the classic Dr. Seuss book. Could you possibly even guess who will be joining him? Yeah, I know you can't. According to Variety the cast is already rounded out by Zac Efron, Ed Helms, Rob Riggle and Betty White, and now Taylor Swift has signed on to join the madness.

In a perfect storm of tween sensations who are maybe a little past their high point, Swift and Efron will be playing each others love interests, Efron the "idealistic young boy who searches for the Lorax" and Swift "the girl of his dreams." My favorite casting detail of all is that Helms will be voicing the Once-ler, the mercenary character who in the book is responsible for the massive amount of environmental destruction. I know it's not like Helms is getting to stretch out and play a hardcore villain, but he'll at least be able to translate the vocal parts of his affable appeal into something new.

The LORAX is set for release about a year from now, on March 2, which makes me wonder if they had someone else providing the voice for Swift's character before bringing her in.

Second Poster For FAST FIVE Isn't Nearly As Exciting As The First
Back in February the first poster for FAST FIVE debuted. Surprisingly filled with a lot of negative space with all of the action happening at the bottom, I thought it was a pretty cool poster, particularly because it was flashy without being stupid and didn't contain any dumb floating heads. The second time around they've kept the negative space idea, but removed what was really interesting.

The FAST & FURIOUS Facebook page has debuted the second domestic one-sheet for the movie and while the first one one was like a still motion poster, this one is really flat. I still find it cool that they're willing to devote so much area to the open sky, yet fast cars and lights are replaced with the cast just standing around aimlessly. Is it cool that Dwayne Johnson will be playing a cop in the movie chasing down Vin Diesel and Paul Walker? Sure, but make him actually do something.

Check out the new Fast Five poster on the left,  Click on it to see it full size.

BATMAN'S Alfred Michael Gough dies at 94
Michael Gough, the British actor best known for playing Bruce Wayne's butler Alfred in a series of
BATMAN movies, died Thursday at age 94, his ex-wife said.

Gough appeared in more than 150 movies and television shows, including British science-fiction show "Doctor Who," and recently voiced characters in Tim Burton's ALICE in WONDERLAND and The CORPSE BRIDE.  But he remains best remembered for his role as Alfred Pennyworth in the BATMAN franchise, opposite three different Batmans: Michael Keaton, Val Kilmer and George Clooney.

The veteran actor died at home in England, surrounded by family, his ex-wife Anneke Wills said through her agent.

Wills, who herself starred in the "Dr. Who," said in an obituary posted on its website: "As his body was deteriorating this week, he said that he wanted to hang on for St. Patrick's Day. And he did, just. In the end ... there is only love."

Gough starred in BATMAN in 1989 and BATMAN RETURNS in 1992, both directed by Burton,BATMAN FOREVER  in 1995 and BATMAN and ROBIN in 1997, both by Joel Schumacher.

Guillermo Del Toro Asked to Turn PACIFIC RIM into GODZILLA?
Bloody-Disgusting has learned from a very reliable source that Warner Bros has requested for Guillermo Del Toro to re-write the screenplay for PACIFIC RIM to make sure that the monsters in the movie not attack Japan.

In addition, the studio has been asking the helmer to consider turning the new film into a GODZILLA reboot since the plot of the two films is so similar. Del Toro is not interested in making GODZILLA, but Warners is persistently bringing it up.

AICN claims that Del Toro is not being asked to re-write PACIFIC RIM to remove Japan or convert it to GODZILLA. Bloody-Disgusting stands by their sources, stating that it's AICN's sources that are mistaken.

PACIFIC RIM is set in a future in which malevolent creatures threaten the earth, so the planet must band together and use highly advanced technology to eradicate the growing menace.

Jodie Foster Already Planning To Direct Again, This Time A Sci-Fi Project
Jodie Foster's no stranger to sci-fi as an actress, having memorably starred as an astronaut in CONTACT and taking another extraterrestrial role in Neill Blomkamp's upcoming ELYSIUM. But as a director her work has been a lot more earthly-- LITTLE MAN TATE, HOME For The HOLIDAYS and her new film The BEAVER are much more human-scaled projects, a modesty that makes sense for a skilled actress who only directs occasionally. But fresh off the success of The BAVER at SXSW, Foster has set her sights on yet another directorial effort, and as she puts it, "it's much more a genre movie" than a family drama.

Talking to The LA Times, Foster said the project is still in very early stages, with an unnamed screenwriter writing the script and Foster planning to do some rewrites. But here's how she described her interest in a sci-fi project to begin with:

"I'd like to do that 'cause that's a world I live in as an actor but I've never really gone to as a director. I'd still have to have all the other stuff in a film. It can't just be, 'There's a bad guy, there's a monster.' It has to have all the other stuff too."

It's hard to figure out exactly what she means by that, but given that Foster is incredibly thoughtful as both an actress and a director, it's safe to assume she's making she doesn't turn in just another blow-'em-up alien movie-- not that we'd ever expect her to do so anyway. Given that it's been 16 years since Foster last directed a film, it's an amazing treat to have her returning behind the camera again so soon.

Adrianne Palicki Suits Up as Wonder Woman
The suit fits!

"Wonder Woman" has a sexy new look with Adrianne Palicki as the star of NBC's upcoming reboot of the classic '70s series.

In a photo posted on Entertainment Weekly's Web site, the actress rocks the super hero's skin-tight costume, which has been updated with shiny blue pants and boots. Still there, though, are her bullet-proof bracelets, famous headband a golden lasso. Also, you can't see it but she's standing in front of her invisible jet.

If you like your Wonder Woman in Dominatrix gear you'll be happy to slobber over the first  pic of the new costume.

The cast also includes Elizabeth Hurley and Cary Elwes, with David E. Kelley of "Boston Legal."

Looks like she'll have no problem stopping bad guys in their tracks!

If not, well, perhaps you can download you some Linda Carter and sleep with her underneath your pillow.

Arnold Schwarzenegger's Next Film is TRUE LIES Sequel?
Tom Arnold has been saying that Arnold Schwarzenegger and James Cameron are both interested in making a sequel to TRUE LIES. Then last year we heard that there won't be a movie. Instead, TRUE LIES will be turned into a TV series that could possibly star John Cena.

Now, in an interview with Movieweb, Tom Arnold is once again claiming that TRUE LIES 2 may happen and it may be Schwarzenegger's next movie. On top of that, he says that Cameron will be producing and that there is already a finished script.

"We (Tom Arnold and Arnold Schwarzenegger) have both read the script," said Tom Arnold. "There is a script that James Cameron and a guy named Jeff Eastin, who created the TV show 'White Collar,' wrote. It is really great. Jim can't direct it. But he can produce it. Arnold Schwarzenegger is excited. I am excited."

Blackbeard Scowls In New PIRATES Of The CARIBBEAN Character Poster
Wrapping up a week in which we've seen individual posters for nearly every major character in PIRATES Of The CARIBBEAN: On STRANGER TIDES, the villainous Blackbeard is taking the focus today in the new poster you can see below. In similar style as the posters that featured Jack Sparrow, Penelope Cruz's Angelica and Geoffrey Rush's Barbossa, this one is the most interesting because, come on, Blackbeard is a total badass.

Played by "Deadwood" star Ian McShane, Blackbeard is the major baddie of the new movie (unless you count the zombies), captaining the Queen Anne's Revenge when Angelica forces her former flame Jack Sparrow on board. As the plot description puts it, "Jack finds himself on an unexpected adventure in which he doesn't know whom to fear more: Blackbeard or Angelica, with whom he shares a mysterious past." From the looks of this poster Blackbeard is by far the one I'd be most afraid of, but it's your call. Check out the poster to the left and learn everything else you need to know about PIRATES Of The CARIBBEAN: On STRANGER TIDES in our Matchflick Database.

Mark Ruffalo Says Marvel Isn't Planning Another HULK Movie
In an interview with TotalFilm, Mark Ruffalo revealed that while there are plans for more The AVENGERS installments, there have not been any talks of another The INCREDIBLE HULK film.

"There will probably be a couple more AVENGERS movies, which would be fun to do," he said. "I don't know if they will ever do another HULK. How old is The Hulk meant to be? Six years from now I will be in my 50s."

About a year ago, The INCREDIBLE HULK director Louis Leterrier said that if the Hulk appears in The AVENGERS, that would ruin the future of the HULK franchise. "In the world where Avengers exist, the 'HULK sequel wouldn't make sense," he said. "Because if Hulk wreaks havoc, the Avengers would come and stop Hulk."

The BIG BANG Poster Bathes Antonio Banderas In Film Noir Style
The first poster for the new Antonio Banderas film noir The BIG BANG has debuted online. Later this week, right here on Cinema Blend, we'll have your first exclusive look at the movie's trailer. I've already gotten a sneak peek at it, and I can promise that not only is it completely cool, it delivers on all the cool, noir visual style promised in this equally cool, first ever poster.

Check out a small version of the poster to the left, but make sure you click on the image for the full size version.

The BIG BANG stars Banderas as private investigator Ned Cruz, hired by a Russian boxer to find his missing girlfriend and the $30 million in diamonds she's hiding. His investigation takes him into the city's seediest corners, where he encounters a Hollywood action star (James Van Der Beek), a porn producer (Snoop Dogg), and a kinky waitress with a thing for particle physics (Autumn Reeser).

C. Thomas Howell Confirms The Lizard For AMAZING SPIDER-MAN
The upcoming SPIDER-MAN redo has done a good job of keeping people interested even though many of us became jaded with the franchise when Sony scorned Sam Raimi last year. But despite a rom-com director being at the helm now, The AMAZING SPIDER-MAN is shaping up to be pretty cool, though we haven't seen any footage yet.

Today, we get a bit of news from the RetroRadio podcast (via MovieWeb) who recently had long-time actor C. Thomas Howell on the show. Howell appeared in The OUTSIDERS in his youth and went on to be a pretty busy supporting actor in TV and film. His latest endeavor has him playing Ray Cooper in Mark Webb's SPIDEY rehash and he let slip that we'll definitely be seeing The Lizard getting into it with the spandexed hero.

There is not a whole lot to talk about. Sony wants us to be hush-hush right now. I play a relatively small role. I play a construction worker who's son is caught in the middle of a battle between the Lizard and Spider-Man on the Manhattan bridge. Spider-Man helps me get my son back from this perilous situation. There is some payback there at the end of the movie. Spider-Man is kind of hurting. I help him when all of the other people won't. Part of the story is, the nation thinks he might be a bad guy. They don't know what to think. Because of my experience on the bridge with my kid, I know he is a good guy. I pitch in and help out at the end. That is the best way.

We've known Rhys Ifans had taken on the role of Curt Connors, but this confirms that he'll be more that just Peter Parker's college professor (as the character was in Raimi's movies). Now that the Lizard's out in the open, odds Sony won't be far behind with more details to whet our nerdy appetites.

20th Century Fox Wants a Comedy Director for DEADPOOL
ZOMBIELAND writers Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick have apparently finished a draft of the DEADPOOL script. Just recently 20th Century Fox was getting serious about finding a director and getting the project in front of the cameras.

Ryan Reynolds, who played the character in X-MEN ORIGINS: WOLVERINE, was set to return with Robert Rodriguez in talks to direct. Eventually everything fell apart and Reynolds went on to other projects.

Now comes word from David Slade (30 DAYS of NIGHT) that he was considering helming the film, but eventually decided to sign on for the studio's DAREDEVIL reboot. He now revealed on his Twitter account that Fox is searching for comedy directors to tackle DEADPOOL.

"Love DEADPOOL. [i] was never engaged in the (quite fantastic) script," he wrote. "Last I heard studio was looking at comedy directors. None of my business."

New HOP Trailer Reveals The Battle For Easter: Is This A War Movie?
Having seen the first two trailers for HOP I assumed, wrongfully it seems, that this was just another in a long line of CGI talking animal moves in with a human movie. See GARFIELD or ALVIN and the CHIPMUNKS as reference points. The newest HOP trailer, though, washes all of that away. What this movie really is, is a war movie.

See this trailer mostly revolves around an evil, incredibly cute, fluffy yellow chick plot to overthrow the bunny management who runs the factory where Easter is produced. They do this with a wide assortment of chocolate guns and nefarious plotting. Apparently Easter, as a holiday, works pretty much like Christmas. Except instead of Elves making toys at the North Pole, it's baby chicks and bunnies making candy inside Easter Island.

This new trailer contains evil, fluffy traitors, bunny ninjas, and at least one scene in which the movie's star CGI rabbit "EB" pulls off some sweet MATRIX moves while dodging a saw. Oh and there's some actor in this movie too.

Check out all the candy-coated violence in this eye-opening new Battle for Easter themed HOP trailer:

WORLD WAR Z Seeking Financial Partner to Survive
We haven't heard much about Paramount Pictures'  WORLD WAR Z project, an adaptation of Max Brooks' novel. It seems that the project could collapse indefinitely unless another financier is found.

WORLD WAR Z is currently budgeted at $125 million and the studio has reportedly reached out to producer/financier David Ellison to front part of the budget. Brad Pitt will star and produce with Marc Forster still attached to direct World War Z from an adapted script by Matthew Michael Carnahan. Here's what Paramount Film Group President Adam Goodman had to say about World War Z.

"We're really committed to making a big, kick-ass giant movie with Marc Forster and Brad Pitt."

However, when asked if Paramount would ditch the project if another financier could not be found, Adam Goodman would not comment further.

Max Brooks' World War Z novel chronicles a zombie outbreak that spirals into a worldwide epidemic. The book features testimonials from the survivors as they fight to stay alive.

WORLD WAR Z is in development and stars Brad Pitt.

Jerry Stahl to Pen THIN MAN, Starring Johnny Depp
Heat Vision reports that Warner Bros. Pictures has hired author and screenwriter Jerry Stahl (PERMANENT MIDNIGHT) to write the script for director Rob Marshall's The THIN MAN remake starring Johnny Depp.

Based on Dashiell Hammett's detective novel, the Academy Award-nominated 1934 movie starring William Powell and Myrna Loy spawned five sequels. It's described as follows:

Nick and Nora Charles cordially invite you to bring your own alibi to The THIN MAN, the jaunty whodunit that made William Powell and Myrna Loy the champagne elite of sleuthing. Bantering in the boudoir, enjoying walks with beloved dog Asta or matching each other highball for highball and clue for clue, they combined screwball romance with mystery.

Depp will produce with his Infinitum Nihil partner Christi Dembrowski. Kevin McCormick is producing via his studio-based Langley Park.

Alan Rickman Will Be Colin Firth's Mark In The Caper Comedy GAMBIT
As Colin Firth's follow-up to his Oscar-winning The KING'S SPEECH role and a caper comedy written by the Coen Brothers, GAMBIT is sneakily becoming one of my more anticipated movies of the next year or so. A remake of the 60s comedy that starred Michael Caine and Shirley MacLaine as an unlikely pair of con artists, GAMBIT will co-star Cameron Diaz and will be directed by Michael Hoffman, who last made The LAST STATION. Now the thieving duo of Firth and Diaz have found their mark-- according to Coming Soon, Alan Rickman has signed on to play Lord Shahbandar, the richest man in England who is at the center of the planned con.

Additionally English actor Tom Courtenay, whose screen credits go all the way back to 1965's DOCTOR ZHIVAGO, has signed on to play The Major, a role I can't quite place based on the information I can dig up about the original film. Regardless, the man has been knighted, and along with Rickman makes for a serious dose of talent in a movie that already included plenty of it. Diaz is the wild card here, of course, the American woman without nearly the solid track record of the rest of the cast, and a recent caper comedy behind her--that'd be KNIGHT and DAY-- that didn't work out so well. But with this summer's BAD TEACHER actually looking really promising, I'm putting faith in Diaz's comedic chops and hoping she has what it takes to fill Shirley MacLaine's massive shoes. If nothing else, she'll have a lot of talent backing her up if she stumbles.

Ryan Phillippe's The BANG BANG CLUB Trailer
Today we have the official trailer for The BANG BANG CLUB, which is based on a book by Greg Marinovich and Joao Silva (two of the photographers in the movie), and stars Ryan Phillippe, Taylor Kitsch (WOLVERINE), and Malin Akerman (WATCHMEN). Check out the trailer below.

Plot: The real life story of a group of four young combat photographers bonded by friendship and their sense of purpose to tell the truth. They risked their lives and used their camera lenses to tell the world of the brutality and violence associated with the first free elections in post Apartheid South Africa in the early 90s. This intense political period brought out their best work (two won Pulitzers during the period) but cost them a heavy price.

The new movie is directed by South African filmmaker Steven Silver, who is known for his award-winning documentaries. It already premiered at the Toronto Film Festival and is now set to hit theaters on April 22nd, in limited release.

Warner Bros has announced that principal photography has started on the sequel to CLASH of the TITANS, which is directed by Jonathan Liebesman (BATTLE: LOS ANGELES) and set to hit theaters on March 30th, 2012. The announcement added that Bill Nighy and Danny Huston have joined the cast. A plot summary has also been provided.

Plot: A decade after his heroic defeat of the monstrous Kraken, Perseus (Sam Worthington) — the demigod son of Zeus (Liam Neeson) — is attempting to live a quieter life as a village fisherman and the sole parent to his 10-year old son, Helius.

Meanwhile, a struggle for supremacy rages between the gods and the Titans. Dangerously weakened by humanity's lack of devotion, the gods are losing control of the imprisoned Titans and their ferocious leader, Kronos, father of the long-ruling brothers Zeus, Hades (Ralph Fiennes) and Poseidon (Huston). The triumvirate had overthrown their powerful father long ago, leaving him to rot in the gloomy abyss of Tartarus, a dungeon that lies deep within the cavernous underworld.

Perseus cannot ignore his true calling when Hades, along with Zeus' godly son, Ares (Edgar Ramirez), switch loyalty and make a deal with Kronos to capture Zeus. The Titans' strength grows stronger as Zeus' remaining godly powers are siphoned, and hell is unleashed on earth.

Enlisting the help of the warrior Queen Andromeda (Rosamund Pike), Poseidon's demigod son, Argenor (Toby Kebbell), and fallen god Hephaestus (Bill Nighy), Perseus bravely embarks on a treacherous quest into the underworld to rescue Zeus, overthrow the Titans and save mankind.

Tyler Perry's Madea Joins The Cast Of JERSEY SHORE
I get the feeling that Tyler Perry's Madea character may not have been all that different from Snooki in her younger days. So I guess it makes sense that in their latest promotional effort, Tyler Perry has gone ahead and turned Madea into the Jersey Shore's second most famous person/criminal/character.

Here's a new poster for MADEA'S BIG HAPPY FAMILY in which Madea has big happy hair and now seems to be starring in a reality show called "Georgia Shore." I guess this makes Michael Jai White The Situation? Poor Michael Jai White.

In case you missed them, you can see all the previous Madea parody posters in which she's inserted into The BRADY BUNCH, The GODFATHER, BLACK SWAN, TRUE GRIT, and The KING'S SPEECH (for reasons we may never fully understand) right here.

Tom Hooper Will Direct The LES MISERABLES Movie Musical

Tom Hooper dutifully spent nearly six months promoting The KING'S SPEECH, turning the film from a festival darling into a Best Picture winner, and nabbing his own Best Director trophy in the process. Since February's Oscar ceremony Hooper has been keeping quiet and weighing his next move-- he wasn't attached to any new film before The KING'S SPEECH was released, but according to Deadline he may have finally figured out what he wants to do next.

As rumored back in February, around the same time he turned down the job of directing IRON MAN 3, Hooper is making a deal at Universal to direct LES MISERABLES, an adaptation of the gigantic Broadway musical based on Victor Hugo's novel. There's no promise that it will definitely be his next film, but with production aiming to start before the year is over and a huge amount of pre-production required for a film this large, it kind of seems like the only choice.

The 1997 movie LES MISERABLES was only a take on the original Hugo story, which would make Hooper's film the first movie adaptation of the musical that's been running seemingly continuously worldwide since it opened in 1985. The epic story revolves around the French Revolution, focusing on the convict Jean Valjean-- arrested for stealing a loaf of bread-- and the dogged inspector, Javert, who wants him brought back to jail after breaking parole. Full of rousing speeches, plaintive ballads-- "On My Own," "Castle on a Cloud"-- and a showstopper attack on the Bastille, it's classic 1980s Broadway cheese, and yet, a story so large it kind of demands to be seen on the big screen.

Hooper has only two films behind him, the earlier one being The DAMNED UNITED, and has no serious professional background in musical theater. But hey, the guy has an Oscar speaking to his talents, and nobody ever wants to invest in giant musicals anymore. If this is the next gamble Universal wants to take on an artist, I'll be happily singing along in the audience when it hits theaters.

UPTOWN SATURDAY NIGHT Eyes Will Smith and Denzel Washington
ROLE MODELS screenwriter Timothy Dowling has been hired by Warner Bros. to write the remake UPTOWN SATURDAY NIGHT, which Will Smith and Denzel Washington may star in.

The original UPTOWN SATURDAY NIGHT was released in 1974 and starred Bill Cosby and Sidney Poitier. The story centers on two friends who lose their wallets at a nightclub. The next morning, they learn that one of the wallets contained a winning lottery ticket, and they both seek out to find it. It is believed the original story will be altered for this new take, although it isn't clear what direction they're taking. The film was also used for the basis of ALL ABOUT the BENJAMINS, which starred Ice Cube and Mike Epps.

David Dobkin (WEDDING CRASHERS) is attached to direct UPTOWN SATURDAY NIGHT. Will Smith will produce the comedy alongside his Overbrook Entertainment partners James Lassiter, Ken Stovitz, and Jada Pinkett-Smith.

The project has been in development since 2002, originating from a script by COP OUT writers Robb Cullen and Mark Cullen.

No production schedule was revealed for UPTOWN SATURDAY NIGHT.

UPTOWN SATURDAY NIGHT comes to theaters in 2014. The film is directed by David Dobkin.

CHILD'S PLAY Reboot Coming In 2012
I must admit to being kind of impressed by the CHILD'S PLAY franchise. On paper the concept of a killer doll is absolutely ridiculous, but they actually managed to make one fairly scary movie. But then the sequels came and ruined everything. Ever since the franchise fizzled out in the mid-aughts, we've heard word of a remake, but now apparently they are making an honest try at it.

MovieWeb is reporting that with MGM pulling itself out of bankruptcy and looking to fill up their slate, a CHILD'S PLAY reboot is now on the way. The biggest obstacle facing the project has been a dispute between MGM and Universal, the first studio holding the rights to the original and the latter retaining those for the sequels. Apparently a deal has been struck, however, and now the project is moving forward with a script written by Don Mancini - who wrote all of the other films - and Brad Dourif attached to star. Said to be much darker and less comedic than the last few movies, production will begin later this year and the movie will be released in 2012.

Considering how they drove the franchise into the ground I'm not sure that even the most devout Chucky fans will be too upset about this one, particularly because Mancini and Dourif are still involved. Let your word be heard in the comments section below.

Official: Will Sasso Is Curly in THREE STOOGES
Remember when we reported that Johnny Knoxville was all but signed as Curly in the upcoming THREE STOOGES movie?

We lied.

Will Sasso has officially been cast as Curly in the Farrelly Brothers' THREE STOOGES, from 20th Century Fox.

THR pegged the actor as the frontrunner earlier this week for the movie, which is being divided into three vignettes telling an overall story.

The movie is not a biopic.

The casting of Sasso sets the stage for snagging actors to play Larry and Moe.

When the project was set up at MGM, the Farellys had Jim Carrey as Curly (that same incarnation had Sean Penn as Larry and Benicio del Toro as Moe).

APA-repped Sasso was one of the stars of "MadTV" and appears on "$#*! My Dad Says," which already ended its season.

His feature credits include the Katherine Heigl-Josh Duhamel romantic comedy Life AS WE KNOW IT and voice work in the upcoming Thanksgiving animated film ARTHUR CHRISTMAS.

Michael Sheen Enters Talks For Tim Burton's DARK SHADOWS
If you haven't already been aware of it, Tim Burton has a habit of casting a lot of the same people in his movies. It's the reason Johnny Depp has been in seven of his movies and Helena Bonham Carter has been in six. Last year Michael Sheen took on the part of the White Rabbit (albeit voice only) in Burton's ALICE in WONDERLAND, and now the director has him coming back for round two.

The Playlist has learned from unnamed sources that Sheen is now in talks to join the cast of DARK SHADOWS, Burton's film adaptation of the 1960s gothic soap opera. Should he sign on, he will be part of a project that already includes the aforementioned Depp and Bonham Carter, Jackie Earle Haley, Eva Green, Bella Heathcote, and Michelle Pfeiffer (who is working with Burton for the first time since BATMAN RETURNS). It's unknown what role he would be playing. The film is scheduled to begin shooting next month and will be released in 2012.

Sheen is really a joy to watch in anything, so you're not going to be hearing any complaints from me about who he's playing, regardless of the character. Who knows, maybe he'll strap on his Tony Blair suit again.

Disney Considering First Theatrical Mickey Mouse Film?
BleedingCool had the chance to speak to Burny Mattinson, who served as the supervising story artist on the upcoming WINNIE the POOH movie. When asked what he will work on next, Mattinson revealed that he's putting together a MICKEY MOUSE feature film.

"I am working on just an idea of my own which is basically a Mickey, Donald, Goofy feature film idea," he said. "We have to present it first to the bosses to get the green light."

While Mickey has appeared in some direct-to-video movies, he has never starred in his own theatrical release. And there is a good reason for that. Disney is not willing to risk putting the icon character in a movie, which may end up hurting Mickey's and the company's image.

Spock's Ear To Be Auctioned
"Star Trek" fans have the opportunity to get their hands on a piece of sci-fi history as a prosthetic ear worn by Leonard Nimoy as Spock goes under the hammer.

The veteran actor wore the distinctive pointed ear to play his most famous character in the 1979 film STAR TREK: The MOTION PICTURE.

The iconic memento has been carefully preserved for more than 30 years and is now set to be sold off at an auction of Hollywood memorabilia next month.

Dan Levin, a spokesman for Premier Props, the company behind the sale, says, "This ear was kept by the prop master from the film. It was carefully wrapped up which is important because silicone latex can deteriorate.

"Spock's ears are an iconic part of "Star Trek" and fans across the world would love to own it - we've already had lots of bids."

The auction will take place in Los Angeles on 2 April.

News of the sale emerged on Saturday - the day of Nimoy's 80th birthday.

Hammer Cast as the Prince in SNOW WHITE Film
Relativity Media has closed a deal with The Social Network star Armie Hammer to play Prince Andrew Alcott in its upcoming untitled SNOW WHITE feature, based on the Brothers Grimm story, directed by Tarsem Singh (IMMORTALS, The CELL).

Hammer join Julia Roberts who was previously announced in the role of the Queen. Pre-production has begun, and principal photography will start in May. The theatrical release date is set for June 29, 2012.

Relativity's SNOW WHITE, a retelling of one of the most beloved fables of all-time, will eschew the traditional story in favor of a more modern tale full of comedy and adventure. After her evil stepmother kills her father and destroys the kingdom, Snow White bands together with a gang of seven quarrelsome dwarfs to reclaim what is rightly hers..

The film's producers are Ryan Kavanaugh (The FIGHTER), Bernie Goldmann (300) and Brett Ratner (RUSH HOUR franchise). The script was written by Melissa Wallack (MEET BILL) and Jason Keller (MACHINE GUN PREACHER).

Hank Azaria And James Marsden The Frontrunners For Remaining Three Stooges Roles?
Here we go with Rumor City again.

With the project set to go into production in the middle of next month and one of the dust settled in regard to their first casting selection, we can probably assume that the rest of the actors to be in Peter and Bobby Farrelly's The THREE STOOGES will be announced fairly soon. Now we might have an idea of who they're looking at.

Deadline reports that the two names now surfacing to play Moe Howard and Larry Fine, respectively, are Hank Azaria and James Marsden. Should they be cast, they would join Will Sasso in the film, who just a couple hours ago was announced as Curly. Where the actors stand is highly speculative, however, as Deadline doesn't reveal a source for the information and at one point goes as far as to say "the name I am most often hearing..." Both Azaria and Marsden have roles in the Universal live-action/CGI-animated Easter movie HOP, which comes out next week.

While I find the Marsden rumor fairly strange (the same guy who played Cyclops in the X-MMEN movies?) I love the idea. The guy has always been hilarious and it isn't a stretch to see a physical resemblance - just throw a bowl cut on him.

Only Christopher Nolan Knows The DARK KNIGHT RISES Ending
In an interview with AbsoluteRadio, Gary Oldman talked about the level of secrecy around the script for The DARK KNIGHT RISES that Christopher Nolan has set up.

"To get into the production office, you have to have someone meet you and there are keys and various doors that lock," he explained. "The script you read in the production office, and there is no ending because [Nolan] tells you the ending so that it doesn't leak and get out, and people spoil it on the internet."

Oldman also mentioned that his character will have interaction with Bane, played by Tom Hardy. "I have quite a bit to do with Tom in this one," he said.

Disney bringing Miss Marple to big screen
Agatha Christie's elderly detective Miss Marple is getting the big-screen treatment from Disney.

After months of negotiations, the studio has closed a deal to capture the movie rights to the character, who first appeared in print in 1927.

Disney is not making a period movie, however, but is looking do a contemporary version with an edge. It has commissioned a script from Mark Frost, who is best known for co-creating the landmark TV series "Twin Peaks" with David Lynch.

Jane Marple was one of Christie's most famous creations, a sweet old lady with a deep understanding of the dark side of human nature.

The character first appeared on screen in 1961 in MURDER SHE SAID, portrayed by Dame Margaret Rutherford, who was 70 at the time and went on to reprise the role in three other films with a comedic bent. Angela Lansbury played the character in 1980's The MIRROR CRACK'D," based on a book that Christie had dedicated to Rutherford.

Movie News March 30
JUSTICE LEAGUE of AMERICA Movie Coming in 2013
LA Times had the chance to speak to Warner Bros Pictures president Jeff Robinov, who revealed that a JUSTICE LEAGUE of AMERICA movie is now a top priority for the studio, with plans of releasing the film in 2013.

According to Robinov, a script for JLA is in the works and so are script for FLASH and WONDER WOMAN, which is being developed as an NBC television series. "WONDER WOMAN could be a film as well, the same way that SUPERMAN RETURNS came out while 'Smallville' was on," he said.

The plan is to release GREEN LANTERN this summer, then The DARK KNIGHT RISES next summer and SUPERMAN next December. JUSTICE LEAGUE of AMERICA will likely come next, which will then be followed by FLASH, WONDER WOMAN and a GREEN LANTERN sequel.

But how will Warners put together a JLA movie so quickly? The studio has already signed Christopher Nolan to produce their SUPERMAN reboot and their upcoming "BATMAN reboot, so it's not impossible that Nolan is also on board for JLA (possibly directing). And if Nolan is in, so is Christian Bale. The only thing remaining to figure out is how to bring Batman into a world of superheroes, something Nolan has been saying is impossible.

When the first MADAGASCAR movie was released on Blu-ray, The MADAGASCAR PENGUINS in a CHRISTMAS CAPER was one of the animated shorts included on the disc.

The characters also star in The PENGUINS of MADAGASCAR which is a CGI-animated TV show on Nickelodeon. It ended up being the second most-watched animated program behind "SpongeBob SquarePants" amongst ages 2-11. The show is now in its second season.

Warner Bros to Reboot BATMAN With Christopher Nolan
Warner Bros Pictures president Jeff Robinov recently spoke about the BATMAN franchise and its future after Christopher Nolan wraps up The DARK KNIGHT RISES. It turns out that the plan is to reboot the films with Nolan on board.

"We have the third BATMAN, but then we'll have to reinvent Batman," said Robinov. "Chris Nolan and [producing partner and wife] Emma Thomas will be producing it, so it will be a conversation with them about what the next phase is."

The studio obviously wants to transfer all the factors that made BATMAN BEGINS and The DARK KNIGHT successful to their other projects. And the key factor has always been Nolan, which is why he is producing the new SUPERMAN reboot.

Regarding who could take over the new BATMAN franchise... Zack Snyder, who is directing SUPERMAN, has previously expressed interest in helming The DARK KNIGHT RISES, based on Frank Miller's story of an older Batman who comes out of retirement to take down Harvey Dent and a violent gang called "The Mutants."

At one point, Darren Aronofsky was also attached to direct a BATMAN film.
