A WELL-RESPECTED MAN

Actor Gene Hackman has got to be one of the most versatile and well-respected performers in the movie business. Hackman has been an actor in Hollywood films for well over 40 years. In his long career he has often been recognized for the fine, in-depth performances that he gives. Hackman has ultimately succeeded in becoming a two-time Academy Award winner.

Is there a type of character that Hackman has not yet played? Or - Is there a genre of film that Hackman has not yet played in? I think not. His illustrious career has spanned the entire spectrum of roles, and genres, quite thoroughly.

Hackman was born in San Bernardino, California in the year 1930. His birth name was Eugene Allen Hackman.

Hackman began his career as an actor at the age of 32, but it wasn't until he was into his early 40's that his talent as a top-notch performer was finally realized. His brilliant, and convincing portrayal of tough-cop, Popeye Doyle, in The French Connection won him his first Oscar. His reward was well-deserved.

If there are any sceptics out there who have any questions regarding Hackman's acting abilities all one needs to do is check out his dynamite performances as Norman Dale in the film Hoosiers, and as Little Bill Dagget in Unforgiven.
