Why Do We Like to Be Scared?

Personally, I was too scared by THE RING to watch more than 20 minutes of it, but there's a big, healthy audience of horror movie fans out there clamoring for more, and Hollywood is happy to oblige. Newsweek examines why we like horror movies and the anxieties they address here.

UNITED 93: Building up to Release April 28

Later this month UNITED 93, the first big motion picture to directly address 9/11, will be released. Entertainment Weekly details director Paul Greengrass' thoughts on marketing, and reveals that UNITED 93 has been given the opening slot at the Tribeca Film Festival here in New York City. As the Festival was founded to help revitalize the downtown area following 9/11, this seems a fitting choice. It remains unclear if audiences will show up to watch a movie about one of the most horrific events in our country's history, barely 5 years after it happened.

Download Movies: Legally!

Movielink.com announced Tuesday that their customers can now download movies for permanent use at home, in addition to renting them for 24 hours. BROKEBACK MOUNTAIN was the first major release to be available for purchase via Movielink on the same day it was released on DVD. Deals have been struck with MGM, Paramount, Sony Pictures, Twentieth Century Fox, Universal and Warner Bros. (i.e., basically everyone in Hollywood) to sell movies. So, all you Jake Gyllenhaal fans out there can get BROKEBACK and view it on up to three PCs, transfer it to a DVD (in Windows Media format), and stream it with home networking. Insert "I wish I could quit you" joke here.

Thom Williams a graduate of Seattle Film Institute, is a burgeoning film maker and lover of film (think digital!). He makes what he makes and likes what likes with no apologies. His tastes reflect a realism of character and character relationships while exploring the complexities of the human condition.

Ben Larson is an avid film buff that watches everything from Almodovar to zombies. He is fascinated with the trivia surrounding the entertainment industry and the lives of the people that form it. He wants to keep you informed so you can make a good decision on what to watch and what to avoid.

Tim Malcolm is a news editor searching for any sequels, remakes and Tom Sizemore articles. He spends hours a week (more then he wants to admit) searching the web for the most entertaining and accurate sources to save you time. Keep coming back as you never know what he will dig up in the movie world!
