Daniel Craig Rumored To Be Next Bond
According to TV Guide, British actor Daniel Craig will soon be announced as the heir to the James Bond crown. Craig, who played poet Ted Hughes opposite Gwyneth Paltrow in SYLVIA, and the nameless protagonist of the twisty LAYER CAKE (check that out if you haven't already), may be officially offered the part next week. In the gossip world, he's rumored to be seeing his LAYER CAKE co-star Sienna Miller, who may or may not still be engaged to Jude Law. Sienna, if I were you I'd go with Craig.

Eastwood's Two Films on Iwo Jima
Clint Eastwood fans should read this Time Magazine article on his two upcoming films about the bloody World War II battle of Iwo Jima. His ambitious undertaking is to make one film from the American perspective (currently in production), specifically about the fates of the young soldier's photographed raising an American flag during the fight, and second film from the Japanese point of view, which will focus on a fictitious soldier who was educated in the US.

Casting Rumors on FACTORY GIRL
Today's entertainment news at TV Guide includes a note that Jimmy Fallon is being considered for the role of Chuck Wein to Sienna Miller's Edie Sedgwick in FACTORY GIRL. Don't know who Chuck Wein is? Me either. But the Edie Sedgwick entry at Wikipedia contains some helpful information on the decadent partying and indie filmmaking of Edie and the Andy Warhol crowd in 1960s-'70s New York City.

Plot Preview on Next Bond, CASINO ROYALE
Your Movie Nerd caught up on her USA Today reading while in the hospital after her appendix was taken out. I was on Vicodin, but not to worry, I'm not pulling a Matthew Perry. Last Wednesday's edition of the paper included an article on what we can expect in CASINO ROYALE. For the first time we learn about Bond's origins, and how they hinged on a mission where he teamed with female agent Vesper Lynde. Lynde helps him recover after being tortured. Says director Martin Campbell, "She's the one who forges him into the Bond that we all know and love. He certainly falls in love with her, and it does change him forever. It's a genuinely deeper relationship. The film deals much more on a personal relationship with Bond." Also to be revealed: why Bond prefers his martinis shaken, not stirred, and what made the Aston Martin his ride of choice. This is to be a more realistic, darker, and gadget-free Bond. The source material is Ian Fleming's first Bond novel, named, appropriately, "Casino Royale." Next decision: who's going to play Vesper Lynde?

Imelda Staunton up for HARRY POTTER Role
The latest issue of Entertainment Weekly, as well as many Harry Potter fansites, reports that Imelda Staunton (VERA DRAKE) is being considered for the role of Dolores Umbridge in HARRY POTTER AND THE ORDER OF THE PHOENIX, the next film in the series. I think she'd be perfect as the poisonous new Defense Against the Dark Arts teacher.
