A FIRST-RATE SCANDAL FROM THE UK
SCANDAL is truly an exceptional motion picture.
Set in 1963 - SCANDAL is based on actual events that surrounded the notorious 'PROFUMO' Scandal which literally rocked the Conservative British Government (who were in power at the time) to its very foundations.
Showing surprisingly great relish, SCANDAL's riveting story deals directly with the circumstances that lead up to the sensational unmasking of JOHN PROFUMO's (Britain's Minister of War) prolonged sexual involvement with super high-priced call-girl CHRISTINE KEELER.
PROFUMO (married at the time, with children) had initially been introduced to the 18 year-old CHRISTINE through her expensive 'sponsor', the very adventurous osteopath, STEPHEN WARD. During this same period of time, WARD, being the dashing international daredevil that he was, had also offered CHRISTINE to the alleged Soviet Spy, EUGENE IVANOV (for the same scandalous price, of course).
Another one of WARD's outstanding 'stable-girls' was the 17 year-old MANDY RICE-DAVIS who had slept with countless British and American luminaries over an incredibly short span of time.
As you can well-imagine - Once the full impact of this wonderful political scandal hit the evening news, JOHN PROFUMO was promptly dismissed and proclaimed a public disgrace. This whole incident eventually resulted in the suicide of STEPHEN WARD.
Remarkable, fascinating, and highly-credible - SCANDAL was origianlly released in Britain with a super-scorching X-Rating. For its American distribution it was trimmed down to allow it to squeak by with a mildly subdued R-Rating.
