Movie Review by Lisa
July 20th, 2007

4 stars, yep it gets 4 stars...why I hear you say, well my reasons are 3 fold #1. Debbie Harry's in it, and although her acting ain't all that she gets 2 thumbs up just for being an icon of my youth. #2. big drag queens, yeh just gotta love Divine (Travolta ain't got nothing on her or him) #3. for once the girl who comes out on top isn't some emaciated barbie doll.

On the surface this movie is just another happy, chirpy, teen musical but on watching it you realize it tackles a few deeper issues the obvious one being weight and the other racism. We see Tracy Turnblad a slightly heavy (hope that was PC enough) battle and win a spot as a dancer on the popular Corny Collins show, much to the dismay of Amber Von Tussle the evil little Barbie biatch, and to add insult to injury Ambers boyfriend Link Larkin dumps her for Tracy.

As you all know the remake is out today, and I will be watching it (mainly for Christopher Walken) however I urge you all to check out Ricki Lake in the original especially all you young pups who thought Ricki just did a sh*tty talk show.

hells yeah, good review....I forgot that Walken is in the new one, I may check it out after all, Tracy's dad was a cool character too, i loved Jerry Stiller's portrayal. Remember Ricki in Serial Mom? ....I loved that movie too.

You know what I kinda enjoyed most of her movies except that one she did with Brendan Fraser.
