Movie Review by Lark
July 20th, 2007

Divine is such a better Queen than Travolta...

I have zero desire to see the new incarnation of Hairspray (ya know, the one with Johnny-boy all dolled up). I prefer to relish my memories of this 1980's John Water's classic. Never have I had so much fun while contemplating a serious issue. This time around the issue is tolerance. I see this film as sort of a peek into how far we actually have come (well some of "us" anyhow) in our "race relations". Even though this movie is totally over the top and has a comedic slant to it, what stands out most in my memory is the romance between the cute little blonde chick and the black boy, and the ridiculous reactions that they face. Okay, and Blondie's amazing beehive hairdo.
