Movie Review by Zara

You started it!

The movie that biased me against all other youth oriented westerns, this was the granddaddy of the movement to try bringing the popularity of the western back to the movie screen. In a time when people were getting their heads turned by flashy yet shallow films like TOP GUN and the like, YOUNG GUNS attempted to combine the concept with westerns and see what would result.

What ended up happening was the creation of some handsome young stars, all close-up worthy and yet possessing a modicum of talent. Anyone else who was either just pretty or just a good actor wouldn't have been able to pull of the delicate balance. Oddly enough, it required an average of both fields to take a dusty story with no special effects to win the hearts of the young fans.

That's one of the things that I like best about the flick. While seemingly geared towards young women, it's enjoyed by both. Seen as a strong action film by guys and enough of a romantic/friendship line of thinking for women to get into, the film manages to be brilliant by riding the fence all around.

Damn, and you thought horses were the only things that cowboys rode.
