Movie Review by Tim

It's blue light.

Favorite Movie Quotes for : Rambo 3

Colonel Trautman: How's the wound?
Rambo: You taught us to ignore pain, right?
Colonel Trautman: Is it working?
Rambo: Not really. Don't take it personal.
Colonel Trautman: Thanks.

Ok so I can admit that this is not only the weakest Rambo film but they really started messing things up here. Don't get me wrong I still like this movie, still break out the DVD every once in a while but this film is a disaster COMPARED to the previous two films.

You have two VERY successful films Rambo and Rambo 2 so they pretty much knew that no matter what it would make money. This happens all the time most recently with The Matrix series and Pirates of the Caribbean. If you get around to a third film you know that funny will come just because it completes the trilogy.

Ok this film is weird for one main reason. Rambo is an American icon and hero. He is the solider that little boys dream of being when they grow up because they want to serve their country and make this a safer world. In Rambo 3 John Rambo is in Afghanistan fighting WITH, not against but WITH the Taliban. Yes that is correct the same idiots that hid Osama Bin Laden are who Rambo helps fight the Russians.
Now I know that back then things were different, and that they were not a threat nor an enemy to the United States back then but it really is ironic that this film centers around those people looking like they are heroes.

In this film we find that Rambo has retired to a Monk type village which he is enjoying peace and trying to move on with his life. He is done fighting and done being a soldier. Again his friend and comrade Colonel Trautman ask Rambo to go on a mission with him to help Mujahedeen rebels fight the Russians. Rambo turns him down and weeks later finds out that the mission went bad and Trautman was captured. What do you think Rambo does? He goes after his long time friend.

So Rambo spends a good amount of time with the Mujahedeen rebels, learning their customs and fighting with them. The film was written very sloppy. Besides Rambo and Trautman there is practically no characters that you really give a sh*t about. The villains of part one and two were menacing and you knew that Rambo had some stiff competition but in this one you feel as if the main villain is only as powerful as his piss ant (yes I stole that line from Commando) soldiers.

The same bow is back with the explosive tipped arrows this time Rambo gets some C-4 explosives and the lamest thing that Rambo has ever used.......Glow sticks. Yes that's right you would think he was going to a house party or rave but Rambo needs glow sticks to help him fight off the Russians.

They went a little overboard this time with Rambo's odds. I mean at one point he is fighting off over 300 soldiers, tanks, jeeps, mounted artillery and even a gun ship. I know its Rambo but come on.....why is it that no enemy he ever faces can hit anything with their weapon?

One of the best scenes in the film which is always edited out if you watch this movie on TV is when Rambo was hit by a grenade and he has to seal off the wound himself. So he takes a bullet from an AK 47 and removes the gun powder from it, pours it on the wound and sets it on fire......OH YEAH nothing like seeing him burn himself.

I don't know this film just doesn't have the same vibe as the other ones, it really seems like its based more on the action sequences rather then on the character which is why people wanted to see the film in the first place. The only character build up that is shows with Rambo is him playing some type of game on horses with the Mujahedeen people which comes to an end quickly when Russian gun ships show up to kill the whole village. There is also a stupid Mujahedeen boy that thinks he is man enough to fight and ends up being a nuisance for Rambo because he follows him around when he isn't supposed to be. He also ask Rambo to give him his bowie knife that again was redesigned for this film.
