Movie Review by Richard June 19th, 2007

Can't Believe Don Cheadle was in this.
LA in the mid 1980s was thought of as a disintegrating hell hole of Cocaine fueled rage and smog infested ganglands. Ice T was the precursor to all of the Gangsta Rap explosion that was soon to come, and Dennis Hopper jumped on the opportunity to tell a story of how cops are embroiled in this battle that happens on the streets every day. To enlighten us mid-america pukes or something. Maybe to warn us of what was to hit our cities in the late 80 and early 90's with crack and gangs and the pandemonium.
Ok that sounds a bit cynical, but in retrospect, this movie has a lot of sensationalized bullsh*t at times. There are unrealistic views of how Black and Chicanos act. Stereotypical stuff that bothers me when it is portrayed in movies. This movie would be a hard pill to swallow, except for Robert Duvall and Sean Penn.
These two actors play off of each other so masterfully, that, at times you could believe they are actually partners, and in this hellhole of a world. They bond and know their ties to the law in context of this crazy world in front of them. They have no fear. They are tied to their badges until death.
So, if you're a cop, or thinking of being a cop, this is a nice piece of propaganda. But don't take my word for it. Watch it. It at least get your mind going and thinking about what these issues are. I like it when movies do that.
