OK, John... you're slipping

Little Miss Amanda Jones...

One of the best things to come out of this movie, the last of the teen flicks written by the once great John Hughes, was that song. That and the fact that Lea Thompson was hot in her tennis outfit, coming back into class late.

There isn't anything new or original to the story. A boy falls in love with a girl who belongs to another boy who is richer, more popular and of course a huge a**hole. Craig Sheffer shines in his role here, making the movie that much more enjoyable by how much you can tell he is enjoying himself.

The boy eventually understands that what you think you want isn't always what is best for you and that sometimes what you really need is right under your nose. In this case it comes in the form of his best friend and tomboyish chick who plays the drums.

There isn't much to cheer about here, although I will admit that Hughes still is better than the majority of writers out there. However, he got far too idealistic as time went on, even for him. In that, he kills the empire that he once reigned.
