Movie Review by Zara

My Name is...

The best part about this movie is the fact that it's a fairy tale being told inside of another story, that of a sick little boy being read a book by his grandfather. It reminds me of the times that my grandfather would read to me and take liberties with the story, making it grander than what even some of the best writers could put out.

Much of the movie is tongue in cheek as well as having a sincere heart behind it. I think it's a movie that knows it's playing some well-worn ideas and yet is also attempting some originality.

Plus, is there a girl out there who doesn't automatically swoon over hearing the phrase "As you wish!"?

While I understand that this film is mainly going to appeal to little kids and women, there are still some great moments which can be appreciated by the less fair sex. Sword fighting, revenge and Andre the Giant to name a few. And lest I forget, the scene with Wallace Shawn explaining how he knows which of the drinks has the poison in it.

A great movie, one of the timeless classics made during a time which was most popular for putting out leg warmers and jelly shoes.

I used to love this film...and I fondly remember my pink jelly shoes and stripey leg warmers.
