Movie Review by Tim
May 22nd, 2007

The man is a psychopathic killer.

Cherry 2000 is one of those films that most people have never seen. Starring an early Melanie Griffith, David Andrews (most notable recent performance as Katherine Brewster's father in Terminator 3) and it even features a VERY early appearance of Laurence Fishbourne.

I really like this movie. It is such an 80's style action flick with a splash of sci-fi. Basically its about the robots that people buy in the future.....Most of the time they are for sex......They look, talk, screw, etc.....just like humans.

Well Sam Treadwell (David Andrews) gets a little too crazy on one of his sexual adventures and begins to make love to his robot Cherry in a bathtub. The water from the bathtub fries her and he is heart broken. The good thing is the robots have their personality backed up on a small disc sort of like their brain, so if you can find another body that matches them you can basically rebuild her back to original just like an old classic car or something!

Bad news is that Sam finds out that his robot is rare, and it is in a place that is controlled by futuristic guerillas. So he does the only thing you can do......hire a skip tracer / mercenary which in this case is Edith 'E.' Johnson, played by Melanie Griffith.

Not only is she like a female Rambo but she comes with a suped up James Bond style Mustang with all the bells and whistles and enough guns and equipment to take on the Third Reich. So of course Johnson starts to fall in love with Treadwell during their long road trip to get his robot and the rest you will have to watch.

Tim Thomerson plays Lester which is the main bad guy and he is really good in this film. I have watched this film more times then I would like to admit but really if your into 80's action films then this will for sure entertain you!

I used to get this confused with Space Hunter: Adventures in the Forbidden Zone all the time. both had redheads (Griffith here, Molly Ringwald there).

PS: I think I said on the last radio show that Steve Sommers directed this. Don't know what I thought that...

I have always known this movie pretty well, as a matter of fact it was one of the first films I used .....if not the FIRST film I used for the "guess the scene contest." It was a happy day when they finally released this film on DVD....

I'm just commenting to say that when I see this on the front page, I read it down and it looks like Cherry Tim. Just thought that would be a cute new nickname for you, oh fearless leader.
