Movie Review by Ron

Who made who?

I was inspired to do this review after reading reviews of Live Free or Die Hard. In that Die Hard movie hackers try to take over all of the worlds computers and cause havoc. In Maximum Overdrive all computers and machines are taken over and havoc ensues. All it took for this to happen was for a comet to pass by the Earth. While this magical comet is in the Earths orbit for some unexplained reason all machines and computers are given a life of their own and they start killing all the humans!

This was based on a short story by Stephen King. And he wrote the screen play and it is also the first movie he ever directed. The soundtrack was done by AC/DC and features the hit song "Who made Who?" The movie stars a young Emilio Estevez and Yeardly Smith (Lisa Simpson) The biggest star of the movie in my opinion is the semi truck with the Green Goblins face on the front. It is the leader of the machines and is quite evil! And is probably the best actor in the movie.

The plot makes no sense and seems to just have been an excuse to throw in as many brutal and comical death scenes as they could fit in a full length movie. And the death scenes are the best part of this movie. Seeing vending machines and lawn mowers kill people is great! And seeing ATM's insult people is hilarious as well.

Bottom Line: Stephen King calls this a "moron" movie. Maybe that's why I like it so much!

Wow - I have not even thought of this movie in years .. I remember a local guy named Holter Graham was in it from Baltimore - I dont think he has done much else since then , I think he was in the original Hairspray too ...
