Cheeseball greatness

How could you not love a flick with Louis Gossett Jr straightening out the rebellious white kid?

Although this film is dated, especially when it comes to the computer technology and its soundtrack, there is still something that gets me to watch it whenever a TV station is smart enough to play it. Gedrick is a teen whose Air Force pilot father's plane goes down behind enemy lines and is picked up by the local authorities who want to kill him. When the government does nothing about it, he devises a plan to steal a plane and go in and get him. Gossett helps him out along the way, training him to fly the mission and get his father.

There is heart behind this movie that shines through despite all of the cheesy lines and the implausibility of a kid being able to pull any of this off. (And the fact that Gedrick never really looks like a teenager. Man, I wish there had been guys like him at my school...) Perhaps it's just a feeling of remembrance and affection for the time that this movie was made, but I still say that I love it.

A quiet little classic, no matter the subject matter or cast involved.
