This is a prime example of the genius of Jim Jarmusch (America's most underrated filmmaker), whose other films - STRANGER THAN PARADISE, MYSTERY TRAIN, NIGHT ON EARTH, DEAD MAN, and GHOST DOG: WAY OF THE SAMURAI - are all excellent and belong on this list as well. DOWN BY LAW - starring Tom Waits, John Lurie, Roberto Benigni and Ellen Barkin - is pure cinematic poetry, from the opening tracking shot to the final farewell. The "I scream, you scream, we all scream for ice cream" scene is an instant classic.
