Returning to Evil Oz....

Favorite Movie Quote: "This is the old house! The one the tornado blew away. This is how I got into Oz the first time. That used to be my bedroom, and in there was the kitchen And that's where I landed on the Wicked Witch."

The Wizard of Oz is arguably one of the greatest films ever made. For a film so great why is it that some people are still unaware that a sequel was ever made? It is the fact that the movie is so different from the original? Is it because this film is filled with much more evil and darkness? Is it because Dorothy Gale is a little girl in this film? Or most likely is it because the film is listed in the Guinness Book of World Records as the sequel that was made the longest period of time after the original......46 years after the original?

I find this film to be incredibly entertaining...I never read any of the novels so I don't know all of the Oz stories that are out there but this film was great. I found the film to be confusing as a child I mean here you have the yellow brick road crumbled into pieces, the land of Oz destroyed and Dorothy now being a child played by Fairuza Balk.

According to the story this film is suppose to take place 6 months after Dorothy returned to Kansas from Oz so how has she now been transformed to a child? Now Oz isn't a happy, fun and exciting place but more a haven for evil. As a child you don't know what the f*ck is going on but you still enjoy the adventure and journey of Dorothy and love the characters that she meets along the way this time.

Jean Marsh as Mombi scarred me a little when I was a child.....I mean lets face it switching heads is a little more graphic then flying on a broom. Then the fact that the heads are alive even when they weren't attached.....really freaked me out. Jack Pumpkinhead was another great character, my wife thinks to this day that he was the inspiration for the "Jack" character for the chain of fast food restaurants called Jack in the Box, being that they are bother named Jack and have extremely large heads.

What could have been better....well the graphics and effects especially with The Nome King could have been better. I'm sure Disney didn't put too much of a budget into this film, hell they have pretty much discredited that they were even involved with it these days. Also again for a child's film it really needed to be explained what was happening better, I mean I would guess that 99% of the kids that have seen this film saw The Wizard of Oz FIRST.

If you have never seen this film then watch it, It is NOTHING like the horrible bullsh*t film The Wiz, which was a horrible adaptation of The Wizard of Oz.
