Movie Review by Zara
March 12th, 2007

Stupid, but I love it

So shoot me. Stab me with a stake. Make me dress up like Jill and rob me of my Jack. I really adore this movie. Made long before Jim Carrey was the force that he's since become, I still find this movie to be stupid, and oddly enough, sweet fun.

Carrey excels by not playing it too over the top here, mainly because people didn't know who he was at the time so he wasn't required to fill their desire to see him recreate his manic pace that he made famous on the show In Living Color. Instead he plays the straight man, and while I have had people argue with me that playing the straight man is boring, I actually really like seeing him do it.

Back when I worked for the video store we used to watch this movie a lot, mainly for the scene where Lauren Hutton and that chick who plays Robin dance and fight over him. "Hands Off," was the name of the song playing, a song by some unknown woman named Maria Vidal who will never gain the popularity that she did with that one song.

OK, so there are blatant homophobic references and lots of gratuitous sex mentionings, but in all honestly, wasn't that was the '80's were about? I don't care what anyone says. I still love this movie.
