First up, Frederick Palowakski.
I had just turned 4 years old when Revenge of the Nerds first hit movie theatres. Of course my parents using good judgement did not take me to see this film but I caught it years later either on TV or video, I really cant remember.
It takes a nerd to really get this movie I think.....and I do not consider myself a nerd but I do consider myself a geek. I have done all the geeky things in my life.....dungeons and dragons, magic the gathering, playing on computers you name it. I like Lord of the Rings and Star Wars to. I guess that's why this film is special.
In the 80's films were made so different. Look at the budget of this film....it had to be almost nothing along the same lines as The Breakfast Club. What made those films stick out was the characters involved and the memorable script and lines. Anyone that has seen this film will always remember Louis Skolnick's annoying but hysterical laugh, fruity Lamar Latrell, the little kid Harold Wormser, Dudley 'Booger' Dawson and Oger. Then as a bonus you have John Goodman and none other then Jefferson Darcy (Ted McGinley) making early appearances in their careers.
I love how no matter how much crap the jocks put the nerds through they still have fun and succeed at developing a cool social status for nerds. This film had all the elements that make a decent film and this one just has that special flare that even 25 years later is still as fun to watch as it was back then.
They went a little overboard with sequels....Part 2 starting going downhill with the series but then the made for TV parts 3 and 4 really started taking credit away from a fine film.
It should be noted that James Cromwell which is just a wonderful veteran actor who has acted most recently in I-Robot, Spider-Man 3 and The Sum of All Fears played the dad of Louis Skolnick. Cromwell was also the inspiration for the famous "nerd" laugh that Robert Carradine developed. Also this one still shocks me but Timothy Busfield who played Arnold Poindexter was the annoying brother in law to Kevin Costner in Field of Dreams.
Anyway's its hard for me to say "you should go see this or rent it" because chances are that you already have but just remember this was one of the first American Pie / 40 Year Old Virgin films it should be remembered as one of the pioneers.

One of my all time favorites.
Booger: Did you f*ck her?
Gilbert: She's not that kind of girl.
Booger: Why, does she have a penis? |
