Great baseball movie
Baseball almost seems an afterthought to the story about someone who got sidetracked by a mysterious woman (Barbara Hershey)on his way to greatness, but baseball and second chances are what this movie are all about. A great cast led by Robert Redford includes Glenn Close (The Shield), Robert Duvall (The Godfather), Kim Basinger (Cellular), and Wilford Brimley.
This film has it all - baseball, second chances, gambling, underhanded chicanery, ambition, friendship, magic; but most of all, it is just plain fun, romantic, and exciting. It is what a baseball movie is supposed to be - better than the game.
