Movie Review by Melanie
March 18th, 2007

It wasn't until this year that I actually watched these movies. I bought the box set of all six. Then I watched one a night. I really couldn't bring myself to watch more than one a day. I had to watch a comedy after each of them, so I would sleep easier.

This movie is over twenty years old, so you can only imagine how the affects are. Having said this, I was still scared. There is something about this movie that just scares the sh*t out of you. Which is great. I love getting my heart rate up, and Robert Englund is bone chilling.

There are slight holes in the plot, but this is not one of those movies that you watch for that. You watch it to see blood, guts, and get scared. It totally delivers.

This movie scared the crap out of me when I was a kid and to this day still gives me a severe case of the willies.

Did you know that the scene with Johnny Depp and the bed was the only shot that they got? They used so many gallons of blood and the budget was too low to be able to afford more blood and a reconstruction/cleaning of the set, so what we see is the only thing they filmed, very rare for movies.

One interesting tidbit about this movie, it is actually based on a true story. There was actually a kid that was scared of going to sleep because he said he was going to die if he did. His family didn't believe him, and did everything they could to get him to go to sleep. One day he fell asleep on the couch, and suddenly started screaming. He then fell silently dead. After his death his family found coffee and caffine pills stashed in his room. Wes Craven read about it in the news paper, and a nightmare was born.
