This truly is the American Pie of the eighties and one can't help but love every minute of it.
Fast Times takes the audience on a trip through the sex, drugs and rock and roll that are a part of a high school student's daily life. Along the way you meet a cast of colorful and hilarious characters including Judge Reinhold as Brad Hamilton a maturing senior who wants more than what his life is giving him, Mark "Rat" Ratner, a simple movie theater usher with a low self esteem and his best buddy Mike Damone portrayed by Robert Romanus. And last but certainly not least: Spicoli played with hilarious accuracy by Sean Penn.
I love the eighties as it is but Fast Times at Ridgemont High just tops the cake over any "Breakfast Club" or "Sixteen Candles" because it reveals a world most all can relate to, one where the guys really ARE thinking about sex every eigh seconds, women really DO practice bjs (in the lunch room no less) and a guy isn't afraid to have a pizza delivered to his history class...
well...two out of three ain't bad.
Sean Penn is astounding as the beach-boy surfer dude and stoner of Spicoli, a performance that should never be forgotten. There are hilarious moments in this movie that I often quote more than anything found in our current high school flicks like American Pie or Ten Things I Hate About You. If you love the eighties and are a high school student you will absolutely the hilarity of Fast Times at Ridgemont High.
