Movie Review by Chris August 14th, 2008

The year is 1936. A professor who studies archeology named Inidana Jones is venturing in the jungles in South America searching for a golden statue. Unfortunately, he sets off a deadly trap doing so, miraculously, he escapes. Then, Jones hears from a museum curator named Marcus Brody about a biblical artifact called The Ark of the Covenant, which can hold the key to humanly existence. Jones has to venture to vast places such as Nepal and Egypt to find this artifact. However, he will have to fight his enemy Renee Belloq and a band of Nazis in order to reach it.
Raiders of the Lost Ark marks the first film in the hugely successful Indiana Jones trilogy. With 2 other films being released after Raiders in the 80's, followed by a 4th film in 2008, Raiders is the best of all the movies. Though Raiders isnt the funniest or the most action packed of the group, the story and execution of this movie is absoulutely perfect. So as Jones searches for the Ark, he simply comes across indians and Nazi's, while at the same time trying to keep his relationship with his ex girlfriend alive and keeping himself alive as he doesnt allow the Nazi's to take the Ark.
George Lucas created the basic story for Indiana Jones and all of the sequels, and he originally worked with Harrison Ford on the Star Wars trilogy. George actually went and recommended Harrison to Steven Spielberg, the director of all the Jones movies, and Spielberg instantly saw Harrison fitting in with the character of Indiana. The thing about Indiana Jones is that he can be funny and extremely sarcastic, but when something doesnt go his way, he gets angry and all hell is unleashed. The opening of the movie represents us with this mysterious character of Jones and Steven does a great job of using his voice and shadow to show brief glimpses of him. If an Indiana Jones movie was ever made without Harrison Ford, it just simply wouldnt be an Indiana Jones movie. Well it seems as if every movie Jones is in, he has a new love, or a love he used to have and now tries to get them back. This time its Marion Ravenwood, played by Karen Allen. Our introduction to Marion is a drinking game between her and a big drunk, and she uses her drinking talent later in the film. I have to say that she is a beautiful girl and Indy is very lucky to have her. She is smart and I wish she had more screen time along with Indy rather then just having the two characters in scenes alone.
Indiana Jones is an action film which really does have some great action scenes throughout. Rather then filling the screen with useless special effects, which is one thing I didnt like about the latest movie because it had to many special effects, but Raiders features a lot of live action stunts. The film reminds you of the type of attractions you would see at Universal or something where the character runs around with things blowing up and there fighting and jumping on things, and this actually makes the movie more of a classic then anything. The one scene from Raiders I will never forget is first off, the scene in the beginning where Indy is being chased by the big ball as he escapes from the tunnel. The one other action scene I really loved was the one where he fights the big guy around the airplane and eventually ends the fight with that man in the airplane propellor. For a film made back in the 80's with a PG rating, this is a pretty violent movie. The airplane scene ends with a lot of blood splatter and here and there we get some splattered blood or some violent gunshots.
Raiders of the Lost Ark is an amazing movie and I cant find a thing wrong with it.
