Movie Review by Zara
June 4th, 2007

This is what PG rated used to look like

The godfathers of the parody, Abrahams and the Zuckers were the first to bring to the screen pure silliness in its most outrageous form. Starting with AIRPLANE and later winding around into the NAKED GUN series, it was a group of white men who did it before the Wayans brothers decided to take over.

When I was a kid, I think I enjoyed this movie more. While I still get a great kick out of it, it is in the subtle bits of humour and not the sight gags that got me when I was younger. Watching this with my 6 year old, I was amazed that this was rated PG. Of course, it was released before the MPAA decided that we need the interim rating of PG-13 to help make things easier on those parents who like to have the various forms of media parent their children instead of them.

You might disagree with me taking my daughter to go see HOT FUZZ, but the fact that I know her better than you know your child is what bothers you more, just admit it.

All my bullsh*t aside, this is still a fun movie, if horribly dated. Those bits of humour which stand up aren't topical to what's going on with the plane or the way that airlines are run. Face it, things have long since changed since then. But surely, you know not to call a man Shirley.

It's still very amusing in parts but, like you, I enjoyed it more as a kid. I don't know if I find this less funny now because I've seen it several times, or if because my tastes have changed as I've gotten older. I will give them credit for setting the standard for all the spoofs that have since followed. But I'm not sure this movie would or could be released today with any rating.

All I know is I was so amazed that Kareem Abdul-Jabbar could act ( I was easily impressed as a young child) and do that skyhook from three-point land.

A classic, well reviewed!
