Mel's absolute funniest film

Favorite Movie Quote: "I shall now read from the books of Matthew, Mark, Luke,...and duck!"

Ever since I was about 9 years old, I have been a huge fan of Mel Brooks. I credit this film as the one that introduced me. This has to be, not only HIS funniest film, but also the funniest movie I have ever seen. A railroad is slated to run through the sleepy town of Rock Ridge, which will make it a rather profitable piece of property. When the State's Attorney General, Hedley Lamarr (Film fanatics will get the joke), hears about this, he plans a sort of hostile takeover. There's only one problem: no matter what he does, the people will not budge. So, in desperation, Lamarr tries one more thing. After hearing that the people are seeking a new sheriff, he decides to handpick one who the people won't back. Just then, he spots Bart, played by the wonderful Cleavon Little, who is about to be hanged. Bart just happens to be black. Since the town is predominantly racist, Lamarr thinks this is a brilliant idea. However, after initially snubbing Bart, the people do start warming up to him. This doesn't set well with Lamarr, so he decides to send in his "secret weapon, a slow-witted brute named Mongo. When Mongo befriends Bart, Lamarr assembles a gang of ruffians to trash the town and get rid of the sheriff. *SPOILER ALERT* With the help of the townspeople, including Mongo and an alcoholic ex-gunslinger called The Waco Kid, Bart defeats Lamarr and his henchmen, thereby restoring peace to Rock Ridge. Even though this movie is more than thirty years old, it still packs one heck of a comedic wallop. If you watch this movie and aren't laughing the whole time, that will prove that you have absolutely no sense of humor. In my opinion, the is a comedy classic of the highest order.
