Movie Review by Richard

That's My Leg!

I was going to review this flick earlier, but I got distracted. First off, if you are easily offended, don't watch this film. You will be uncomfortable throughout the whole thing.

Mel Brooks plays the a governor , who stays the execution of a black man (Cleavon Little) and sends him to a frontier town that is standing in the way of a railroad project, assuming that the people will get fed up and leave, having a black Sheriff. Everyones name is Johnson. It reminds me of a small inbred town near where I lived for a few years as a kid. We called them chipmunk people, as evidently, that's what inbreeding does.

While there, he befriends a fast draw killer, played by Gene Wilder, and they defend the town from an onslaught of gangs and thugs. I won't give away the ending, but it reminds me of Monty Python and the Holy Grail at that point.

There are so many people in this movie, its hard to even begin to describe. The stupid one liners, the sight gags, all the silliness Mel Brooks brings to film is there. Its a fun laugh. Its a good time film. Too bad Richard Pryor declined the move, but Cleavon Little added an element that I can really appreciate. He is more an actor than Pryor, and that comes through in how he approached the filming of these scenes. Its too bad that he didn't have much of a career outside this film.

I never thought about it, but where did Cleavon Little go after this movie? I thought he was great. Very funny guy.
