American Classic!!!

The Godfather is the film that not only transcends time but it gets better each time you watch it. Every shot in this film is iconic. From the first shot of Bonasera saying "I Believe In America" right up to the last frame of the door being closed on Kay. I was so enthralled with this movie the first time I saw it that when it was done I had to rewind the VHS tape and replay it right away. Most recent movies seldom have one memorable character that the audience cares for and identifies with but this movie has many. Every character has so much depth and complexity that you genuinely feel your watching a real family interacting with each other.

Watching this film is like attending film-making 101. Everything in this film is perfect, the casting, the editing, the sound, the feel, the set pieces, the direction, the lighting and the dialogue. This film has received criticism over time for a "glorification" of violence which I truly feel is misrepresented. This film does show that if you cut corners and break the law that you may get ahead for a short time but if you choose to live your life that way then you will pay for your sins in one fashion or another.

If you haven't seen this movie then you haven't truly experienced all the magic that the movies can bring you. Go out and buy this movie. Don't just rent it, buy it. Nobody's movie collection is complete without this American Classic!!!

I dont quite understand the "magic" of this movie. I was born in 1980, and by the time I saw this film I had already seen Scarface, Goodfellas, Carlito's Way and Casino.....so when I saw this film it was a real dissapointment after hearing people talk about it for so many years, saying that it was the greatest film of all time. I actually bought the Godfather DVD box set and got through part one, about 75% through part 2 and never even put part three in before selling it own Ebay.
