Get Me One of Those Orgasm Machines

When I was a kid, sitting in my room listening to Duran Duran, my dad made the comment that I should just watch the movie and lay off the cheesy pop music. My mom balked and started ranting that she wasn't sure if I should watch the movie. I ended up turning my head from parent to parent wondering: WTF movie are they talking about?

BARBARELLA is the movie whose villian the band decided to name themselves after. It features a nubile Jane Fonda (seriously, that woman had the Charlize Theron body of her time) as a space cadet of the serious and not-so-serious varieties. The entire opening sequence is Fonda getting out of her space suit and being naked save for a few well placed credits.

I think I loved the movie when I was younger based on the evil dolls. Without giving too much away, let's just say that poor Barbarella gets herself into whole heaps of trouble and manages to f*ck her way out of them. In some cases she f*cks her way into them.

But that's what you have to love about the movie. The fact that they were able to convince a future Oscar winner to star in what essentially plays out as softcore intergalactic porn. Well, porn of its time. The movie is tamer than a Paris Hilton music video by today's standards. Still, it was a huge uproar at the time of its release and has managed to stay cheesy and yet transcend its era. I only took away half of a star because of the lame music, which at times is cute and at others is just flat out obnoxious.

This was the 1st ever movie I watched on a VCR my dad was super proud of our new shiney video recorder and ran out and rented this movie guess he didn't know about the rating system, I was about 5 and I remember my dad just about shat himself when he walked in to see a naked Jane Fonder on the telly.

I should really re-watch this movie.
