Hercules Samson and Ulysses (1965)

CURLY, LARRY AND MOE THEY AIN'T
Before the Italians offered us the good, old Spaghetti-Westerns of the mid-1960's, they first awed us with the wonderful Sword & Sandal Epics (of the most spectacularly muscular in proportions) from the late 50's/early 60's.
As certain tastes in movies would surely change with time - HERCULES, SAMSON AND ULYSSES (HSAU) would be one of the last, and, quite arguably, it would be one of the best of this particularly fascinating genre of Italian films.
As a young boy of about 10, I can clearly remember being absolutely enthralled while watching these fantastic Muscleman Movies on late-night TV. Cheesy monster-effects, hammy acting, and corny dialogue aside - It's actually quite surprising to see now just how truly entertaining a flick like HSAU can be for an adult audience in this 'seen-it-all' day and age.
HSAU's awesome story of super-duper heroism goes like this -
The Greek King sends Hercules, Ulysses and their mighty friends out to slay a terrible sea monster that's been plaguing the coast of Ithaca. After this brutal task is neatly taken care of, Hercules and his brave comrades are shipwrecked near Judea.
In Judea our musclebound hero seeks out help from a tribe of Danites, who fear that Hercules and his macho-crew are really Philistines sent to capture their hero, Samson.
Ruthless King Seren orders Samson and Hercules into a fierce battle, pitted to the death, against each other. Having too much honor and admiration for one another, this confrontation soon ends in a truce of mutual respect. And so now our 2 big and brawny heroes join forces with the Danites to fight the nasty, old Philistines.
Pumped and ready for action, it's a fantastic fight to the finish with the Greeks naturally rising to victory, followed by a happy journey back home.
Personally, I enthusiastically recommend that you check out this sensational Sword and Sandal Epic from 1965. You may be pleasantly surprised and delighted that you did. I mean, there's one thing for sure - The Italians certainly don't make 'em like this anymore. In fact, nobody does.
HSAU Starred -
KIRK MORRIS as Hercules.
RICHARD LLOYD as Samson.
ENZO CERUSICO as Ulysses.
