Movie Review by CowboyJunkie

IF YOU'RE NORMAL, THEN WHO WANTS TO BE NORMAL?

Meet David, a troubled teen.

David is a real compulsive nut.

David cannot bear to be touched by others, not even by his own parents. If anyone dares to touch David, even by accident, then he will fly off into a screeching rage and run to the nearest sink to scower away the germs.

Now - Meet another troubled teen named Lisa.

Yes - Lisa is another nutter.

Lisa believes herself to be another person named Muriel.

Lisa always speaks in rhyme - eg. - I am fine, swine - or - Go away, Jay. (I think you get the picture - Ad nauseum)

Lisa's rhyme-talk is kinda amusing, at first, but it quickly begins to grate on one's nerves, like you wouldn't believe - Especially since Lisa expects anyone who responds back to her to talk in rhyme, also. If someone forgets to talk back in rhyme, then, you can bet, Lisa will totally flip out on them.

DAVID AND LISA's story centers around (guess who?), that's right, David and Lisa, 2 unstable, emotionally disturbed teens. These 2 youngsters become inexplicably drawn towards each other while staying in a mental institution specifically geared for screwed-up rich kids.

At first David and Lisa (predictably) hate each other, but soon a deep bond developes between them.

And, shortly after this the profound question arises - Did you know that you can actually love and hate someone, both, at the same time?

There are some good performances here in DAVID AND LISA, but the story becomes too frustrating and contrived to be taken at face value. It erroneously leads the viewer to accept that, in fact, 'romantic' love can actually cure schizophrenia. If this is the case, then it would seem that one mental disorder (romantic love) is somehow capable of cancelling out another mental illness (schizophrenia).

Nice try. But I don't think so.

DAVID AND LISA may be 'Teen Tragedy', but 'ROMEO and JULIET' it ain't.
