Small Heroes – BIG Problems
Favorite Movie Quote: "Do You Have to Put 'Quantum' in front of Everything?"
After his excursion overseas to battle rogue Avengers, the police determined Scott Lang (Paul Rudd) broke his parole and was confined to House Arrest. What follows is a shady technology dealer, dancing with the local police, and a desperate attempt to save Henry Pym's (Michael Douglas) wife from the Quantum Realm, where she has been trapped for the past 30 years. Oh, and featuring the over-explaining skills of Luis (Michael Peña).
ANT-MAN and the WASP is not your typical Marvel film, as the action is intermixed with genuine humor. From costume malfunctions to the dizzying montage of shrinking, growing, and giant growing, not all he time on purpose, the action is frantic. Hank Pym takes a more active role from cantankerous curmudgeon to a more active player in the storyline. His daughter, Hope (Evangeline Lily) comes into her Wasp persona as she drives the action as much as Scott. No damsel-in-distress is she. On the antagonist end is the villainous technology dealer Sonny Burch (Walton Goggins), and the compromised villainess Ava, A.K.A Ghost (Hannah John-Kamen). Laurence Fishburne joins the drama as ex-S.H.I.E.L.D. agent Dr. Bill Foster, and anyone who can figure out how he fits in this canon gets a no-prize. And last, but definitely not least are Scott's comedic Three Musketeers, T.I. ( Dave Tip Harris), Kurt (David Dastmalchian), and Luis. The action is non-stop, frenetic, with many "oh, no" scenes as Scott balances his parole incarceration, his illegal assisting wit Dr. Pym, and his relationship with his daughter Cassie (Abby Ryder Fortson), staying one step ahead of the police, and proving himself to Hope.
And let's not forget the giant ants.
On my personal rating scale, with "5" being drop everything and see the video now; if you're female, bear the producers' children and "0" being burn down the theater, murder the staff, and violate their dog, this movie earns a solid "4." ANT-MAN and the WASP is solid nostalgic entertainment for die-hard True Believers and wholesome enough for the tiny tots to watch without having their parents cringe at every scene. If you have not seen AVENGERS – INFINITY WAR, there is no need to hang around for the post credits scenes.
ANT-MAN and the WASP is rated PG-13 for Action, Adventure, and Sci-Fi, and stars Paul Rudd, Evangeline Lilly, Michael Peña, Walton Goggins, Bobby Cannavale, Judy Greer, T.I., David Dastmalchian, Hannah John-Kamen, Abby Ryder Fortson, Randall Park, Michelle Pfeiffer, Laurence Fishburne, and Michael Douglas. Written by Chris McKenna, Paul Rudd, Erik Sommers, Andrew Barrer, and Gabriel Ferrari, and directed by Peyton Reed, the film is in theaters now.
