Pacific Rim

Giant monster movies are passed over as they are deemed silly and stupid. But with "Pacific Rim", that notion is blown out of the water. Sort of. The movie does an excellent job by telling a story about humans in giant mechanical suits fighting giant monsters from the sea. Though it may not appeal to everyone, the movie delivers in its action. "Pacific Rim" is for anyone who likes to see giant monsters get destroyed in glorious fashion.

The plot of the movie is set in the far future. Here, monsters have come into our world via a portal from deep within the Pacific Ocean, and they are unstoppable. In order to stop them, we build giant mechanical robotic suits piloted by two to take down the threat once and for all.

"Pacific Rim" is a silly movie that is heavily dedicated to creature features of the past. The story is simple and effective and it keeps the viewer interested at all times. The direction by Guillermo del Toro is perfect as he knew what he was getting himself into. The music is great as it is loud and sets the perfect mood for the film. But what really grabs your attention are the action sequences and the special effects. The special effects are outstanding and just beautiful to look at. The monsters are well designed are are a tribute to classic monsters of the past like Godzilla. The action scenes are brilliantly choreographed and are a blast to watch, especially on the big screen. A lot of time and effort went into making this movie work the way it did.

Though with that being said, there are a few things that make the movie weak. The acting and the dialogue are relatively cheesy in comparison with everything else being shown. The characters are stereotypical heroes and the dialogue pretty lame. Finally, the movie may not appeal to everyone. This type of genre has a limited fan base, so only a fair amount of people will actually get all the references that the movie brings out. But for those who are not a fan of the giant monster genre, this will be a great science fiction movie to watch.

In conclusion, "Pacific Rim" knows its audience with its source material, though it can get silly sometimes, but for the most of it, this film is one great ride that needs to be experienced.
