Movie Review by Jesse
December 16th, 2006

A 50s Classic. Don't Miss It.

When you watch this movie, you expect a classic. You get what you expect here. The first, oh, 40 minutes or so are quite dull and carry on without the least bit of amusement, although they are quite important to the character development, they do not give one intrigue to watch any more. But I did, because I had to give this film a chance since it is such a "classic". When you get to the part after the whole car crash scene the movie gets one thousand times better. The whole 50s family theme was hard to portray negatively and this film did a great job of it. They showed how the mother in this family wore the pants and the father was some pathetic excuse of a man who did the "woman work" which was not very common in the 50s. It was very unlike the whole Leave it to Beaver-esque type of family and showed how some families actually are. There were problems in the 50s and there was no hiding that. The best scene in the film is after the car crash when Jim comes home and talks to his parents. A classic scene that I could watch over and over and over again. There were many connotative meanings in this movie yet the ending was to Hollywoodized and could have been much better.
