I love Rainn Wilson when he's not Dwight

SUPER is directed by James Gunn, whose horror chops show through in this hard-to-classify film starring Rainn Wilson. It starts out as a dark comedy, but turns into a pretty grotesque drama . . . I don't know what it is.

Wilson plays Frank, a man whose wife (Liv Tyler) has left him to return to her previous life of drugs. In his grief, Frank has some weird visions, making him believe he needs to be a superhero, so creates the Crimson Bolt. He quickly realizes that he doesn't have any super powers, so he visits his local comic book store for assistance in weaponry, where he meets Libby (Ellen Page).

The Crimson Bolt wants to rescue his wife from drugs and the nasty guy (Kevin Bacon) who she's run off with, but he does some vigilante work on the way.

There was more than my personal preference of violence, blood, and puke, but overall, SUPER is a creative and surprisingly touching effort by Gunn. But it's really freakin' gross.
