Movie Review by Martin
January 27th, 2011

I really wanted to see "Conviction" because of its two leading stars. Hilary Swank is a well recognised and gifted actress. While Sam Rockwell is brilliant too, but seems to be one of those actors who just can't seem to hit the big-time. Hopefully this flick will get him noticed as it certainly wasn't disappointing.

Films all about Rockwell being wrongfully imprisoned for murder, and his devoted sister Swanks efforts too get him out. This really is an amazing true story. Swanks character, who already has a job as well as kids to look after, puts herself through law school and takes well over 10 years out of her life, sacrificing much to save her otherwise royally screwed brother.

This is the kind off film you wonder why has not been made sooner, especially as it's very much a story that belongs in the 90's. The eventual casting is perfect though, with equally impressive turns from co-stars such as Minnie Driver and a particularly memorable appearance from Juliette Lewis. Two long forgotten actresses who i think were infact bigger in the decade in which this one is set.

It's a shame that this movie has been totally ignored by the Oscars. It's usually the kind off thing they recognise. Although it's not perfect (The last bit off the film although bringing a tear to my eye felt underwhelming and anti-dramatic compared to the rest off the movie) overall it was still ace!
