Movie Review by Martin
August 18th, 2010

"The Expendables" is a movie that'll drag fans of 80's action movies to the cinema because of the nostalgia they have toward stars like Sylvester Stallone, Dolph Lundgren and Mickey Rourke. Once seeing it though they'll maybe realise, like me, that these guys weren't in the greatest of movies to begin with, so there really shouldn't be that much to expect from this one at all.

The cons in this movie are to be expected. The best (or should I say biggest) stars in this impressive (in a way!) cast only appear briefly and the films plot takes second place to its action (The plot is basicly that the team do a mission leaving a girl behind and in danger, their leader Stallone thinks he fancies her, so they go back to rescue her, the end!)

"The Expendables" is surprisingly free of a massive amount of comedy one liners, which is a good thing really as they could of made the film so much worse, but possibly better if they'd been funny. These old action movie stars at no point say anything like "I'm getting to old for this sh*t!" either. Sylvester Stallone can barely run but still seems able to out-run big pointless explosions, and Arnold Schwarzenegger can barely walk in his blink and you'll miss it cameo. As it is the flick will appeal to those who want to leave their brains at the door, but will probably just annoy those looking for something different.

Six of us went to see it. Two hated it, two loved it, and me and another guy thought it was OK. You'll fall into either one of these categories. As a night-out though it was great. As a sort of anti-twilight boys night out with no chicks in the audience at all.
