Movie Review by Martin
May 21st, 2010

Here's another addition to the long list of CGI toons that are out there. This one has neither Dreamworks or Pixar behind it, so I entered it with no expectations at all.

"Planet 51" is neither as bad as it could of been, or surprisingly good. Its a sort of OK movie, where the whole "ET" idea is turned on its head, with a planet full of little green men getting a human visitor from beyond the stars.

The First half of this flick is promising, with a good handful of decent laughs, but when the planets army come in search of the human guest, the film forgets how to be funny. It would help if some funny actors were involved too, but most of the voices are either done by actors who usually want to be taken seriously, like Gary Oldman and Jessica Beil, or even worse, by actors who have already proved they can't do funny, but are still trying. These guys include Dwayne Johnson (who should just go back to being a crap CGI scorpion) Seann William Scott (who should not do anything unless its another Stifler impression) and John Cleese (who just thinks because hes a comedy legend, can do a voice in all these cartoons and get some laughs for just turning up, ehhhh, no!)
