Clueless as Alicia Silverstone ??
Favorite Movie Quote: "Roses are red, violets are blue... f*ck you, wh*re!"
I'm am Clueless about this film. Well I understand the film just fine but I do not understand the hype around it. I have read so many reviews in which people praise this film like its the next American Beauty or Forrest Gump. Writers are giving this film five stars left and right and rating no other film from 2009 that high??? I am dumbfounded......
500 Days of Summer is not a terrible film by any means. I did not see the credits role and get angry for my time that I had just spent but I did feel an overwhelming sense of boredom and sleepiness. It features a very average / meager plot of a couples relationship. They really try to switch it up though ....oh yeahhhhhhh......telling the story by different numbered days (hence 500 days of summer) but not in chronological order. Think Memento meets The Notebook or something like that except that Memento and The Notebook are much better films so you would think that if you made a film that featured elements of both that it would be great.....well you think wrong.
The comedy in the film was just...well....how do you type this? Maybe "eeeeehhhh." If that didn't make since to you then lets try some adjectives to help out. Off the top of my head...... common, customary, dime a dozen, everyday, fair, fair to middling, familiar, garden-variety, general, humdrum, intermediate, mainstream, mediocre, medium, middle of the road, middling, moderate, nowhere, ordinary, passable, plastic, regular, run of the mill, so-so, standard, tolerable, undistinguished, unexceptional, usual.....
Then to top it off you have no nudity, nothing shocking and even the cussing seems to be limited..? I just do not get what this film is supposed to bring to the table that has not been done a thousand times. This story has been told so many ways with the same characters. Boy chases girl, girl doesn't want boy, boy goes crazy from love, boy has feelings hurt, boy is depressed, girl meets new guy, girl gets married.....same crap over and over. At least switch it up...make it the girl chasing the guy for once.
