Bruno (2009)

Favorite Movie Quote: "How do you defend yourself against a man with a dildo?"
There are a lot of laughs in this film, but they mostly come from watching the reactions of others to Sacha Baron Cohen's flamboyant gay character, Bruno. Think Carson Kessley crossed with a the purple Teletubby and mixed with Will & Grace's Jack.
Bruno is trying to make it as a celebrity in America, and certainly ridicules the cult of celebrity that we are famous for. Seeing his attempt at a celebrity interview show in front of a focus group was hilarious. The amazement of this group that anyone would want to do a show with him was funny enough, but when he exposed the talking body part to them, it was over the top.
He then goes to Africa and gets a baby (sound familiar?). Appearing with the baby on one of those Jerry Springer type shows and watching the mostly African-American audience react was juicy, to say the least.
Is is really just one skit after another culminating in his efforts to portray himself as straight in a wrestling arena where the Arkansas hicks were full of beer and ready for action. They action they got was not what they expected and this was the highlight of the movie.
Be forewarned that the movie is rated R, but it really should be NC-17. There are several other funny skits in the movie, but I'll leave them to be your surprise.
Lots of laughs, mouth-gaping sequences and a sequence where he thought he was with Ru Paul, but was actually with Ron Paul. Hilarious!
