Yes, this movie is funny. Yes, this movie gives away most of its funny safe-for-all-audiences moments in the trailer. There is very little in between which is as funny as what you can see without paying to watch the entire thing. This movie is, much to my annoyance, hyped to the teeth for some inexplicable reason. The trailer was successful and I guess that's all that was needed. Time comes around again where Mike Tyson is back in fashion and people all start to laugh at him rather than remember how sad his life really is.
I liked most of the bizarre stuff that comes from Zach Galifianakis, a completely inelegant man who doesn't try to play the adorable doofus like Seth Rogen or the wise-cracking fat dude like Jonah Hill. Galifianakis has a name which needs to be copy/pasted or committed to memory to know how to spell and that very fact about him makes him more interesting to me as an actor/comedian. The fact that he knows people will think he's funny but still have no clue how to pronounce or spell his name. That's brilliance.
Other than that, this is fairly standard fodder of guys going into Vegas and having a wild time that they can't remember and then finding out that they did all kinds of the predictably stupid sh*t that guys do in these types of movies, then get away with it all with just minutes to spare. That part is very *yawn*. Having a naked Asian guy jump out of the trunk of your car and beat you with your tire iron is for shock value, but also funny as sh*t, even if you have trouble finding minor laughs in between the moments when you laugh really hard.
