Movie Review by Martin June 23rd, 2009

I actually thought this film was pretty good. I have only recently seen the "Di vinci code" because it had such a bad rap, but i liked it, so was curious about seeing this one.
What i know of the first is that readers of the book were disapointed, which doesnt ushually matter to me. But it seems everyone in the WORLD has read the book besides me, and are all in agreement the movie sucks, so i feel a bit too lonely claiming i like it, chickening out and ushally just agreeing with them. I hate just agreeing to stay in everyones good books though, so here i'm just going to be honest and say i liked the first movie. It was something different and had an origanal idea and story to it.
Now as for this one, its my understanding that this "sequal" is alot closser to the source material, so it should be better, right? Aparently not. And once again i find myself liking a movie everyone else seems to dispise, if not as much as the first time.
I realy think people need to stop compairing these to Indiana Jones, as i think the lack of action in comparisson is why people hate them so much. I took this one more as a "Seven" style drama, with killings based on the elements instead of the 7 deadly sins. Yes, its a bit talky, but doesnt it have to be to explain whats going on in the same way a page of writing does. I found it kept my attention for a majority of the 2 hours running time and i was only let down by a few unlikely moments and yet another connection with the first film, in that the last twist isnt realy needed in an already complicated plot. Plus Ewan Mcgreggors Irish accent actually wasnt too bad! Yeh!
To summerise i think 3 and a half stars for this is fair, and a solid 4 stars for the slightly better "Di vinci code" from me too by the way.
