Movie Review by Zara
August 4th, 2009

As a documentary, this is quite lacking. For someone like me, a person who has yet to sit down and watch all of the FRIDAY THE 13TH movies, it gives away the "plots" of all the installments and shows what the filmmakers and actors think were the best death scenes, but there isn't much depth that it goes into for those who are already familiar with the movies. I can't imagine that there would be much information that a fan would be able to get from this, but at the same time it kinda sucks to watch it if you haven't seen the movies yet. (I debated on whether to wait until I'd watched all the movies or watch this first, I decided on the latter.)

I might not be the biggest horror fan but I do know a thing or documentaries and this one is lacking in what its intentions were. It's not good enough for one side or the other because attacking it from either side is a losing battle. This is decent if you don't mind everything being given away and there are a couple of good moments about how the practical effects in the movie were done (I wish they'd concentrated on that instead of indulging every one of the washed up actors who only have their connection to Jason to cling to) but in the genres of documentaries, it's fair at best.

This doc was horrible.... I was very dissapointed it reminded me of a recap film rather then a documentary....

I appreciated the in between portions with Tom Savini where he was being playful for the camera and talked about how he created the make-up magic for the first Jason. Most people forget how important he's been to the horror genre for so many years.

yeah I tried to interview Savini when I was doing my column still and he blew me off saying that he would do it when he had time.. So I spent hours coming up with good questions and emailed them to him and never got a response...but your right he did some great things in his time.
