Movie Review by Martin November 1st, 2009

The Only surprise in "State of play" is that Ben Affleck manages to out act Russell Crowe, although the film thinks it has alot more surprises to offer than this.
The plot in this movie is realy complicated, which i ushually love, as to much tends to be better than to little. Here though the twists and turns of the story are just the same old thing we've seen in a hundred other political movies, where theres always corruption and some sex scandel of some sort. That and the fact that most of the movie focusses on reporter Crowe and his colleages working in an exciting office make "State of play" kind of boring.
Although the performances are good in the movie, the characters that the first class cast are playing here are all stereotypes. Afflecks the sleazy congressman, Crowes the confident reporter type whos always making out hes only interested in exposing the truth and nothing else, Rachael McAdams is the naive newcomer, and (Shock!) boss Helen Mirren is the shouty type, typical.
Instantly forgettable this.
