Dance Flick (2009)

Movie Review by Bennie November 5th, 2009

Dance Flick is another scattershot comedy from The Wayans Bros., in the same vein of everything else they've released since the funny Scary Movie. Just like in Scary Movie 2 and Little Man, there are some laughs but there are more groans.
I will admit that I'm not a fan of most of the movies that are being spoofed here. I've never seen Fame, and I disliked Save The Last Dance and Step Up. The main problem with this spoof is that the two lead characters are the least funny in the whole movie. Amy Sedaris (someone give her a starring role in something other than Strangers With Candy) and David Alan Grier steal the show with their small roles. Essence Atkins also gives a funny performance.
Everything else about the movie is either lame or unfunny and made White Chicks look like The Naked Gun. There is even a "joke" in the film concerning a teenage girl's dead mother that I thought was just offensive.
I must also add that Dance Flick runs a scant 82 minutes, but the actual movie portion is only 74 minutes. The remaining eight minutes are slow crawling closing credits. It might be a bad movie, but at least it's a short bad movie.
