American Pie Presents: Beta House (2007)

OK, so the latter trilogy of the American Pie series gets slightly better as time wears on. There are still too many unnecessary ejaculation jokes, but this outing seemed much better at tempering having a raunchy sense of humour with being sensitive and laid back when it needed to be.
The movie borrows heavily from other college-related movies, featuring characters who all feel like clones of those you've seen in ANIMAL HOUSE, REVENGE OF THE NERDS and oddly enough, a scene which invokes the serious nature of THE DEER HUNTER and actually manages to pull of funny. Cousin Dwight Stifler is dialed down a lot from the previous introduction to him, becoming more of an Otter clone than just another Stifler.
Still not a great movie and still containing a lot of stupid sh*t that I just don't consider funny even on a debasing level (the first movie pulled off so much that you take it for granted what they managed to make funny and really respect how hard it is to do potty humour without it wearing thin), but BETA HOUSE actually gives you some characters that you like and remains true to them instead of using them like paper versions and folding them in origami directions to suit some wacked out scheme. A + for actually TRYING this time, but still... coulda done better.
