What an insanely, infuriatingly slow and boring movie. This could have been a television show where people followed it rabidly like "Lost" and all those other inexplicable shows that I don't "get" the popularity of and it would have been great.... For the people who watch that kind of stuff.
As a movie, there are portions of this movie that just feel plain wrong. When he's "young" - that being when he's aged 12 years or so but still looks like a doddering old man - he falls in love with a girl about the age of 6. And having a young daughter, I don't care how charming the movie is supposed to be, I would not have been OK with that. I don't care if the people around him grew used to the situation, there is something creepy and wrong about an old baby who ages in reverse until he dies of infancy.
The fact that they carry on the romance for so long, finally meeting in their respective middles didn't move me. Watching Cate Blanchett nurse the "elderly" little kid that was Benjamin with Alzheimer's didn't move me. Perhaps I'm just cold hearted, but I fought to stay awake during this movie. I found it tedious and plain boring. Not heart warming or thought provoking or anything else that all the hype surrounding it built it up to be.
I'm not going against the grain just to do so. This has never been my nature. I genuinely disliked this movie very much. Great art direction, sure. Taraji was the best character in it, yeah. But all the acclaim that it got was plain bupkis in my honest opinion.

| The only thing that really separates this story from any other story that chronicles a persons life is that he ages backwords. This should have been a mini-series. |
