Movie Review by Zara
November 9th, 2008

Very cute and better than the original by paying attention to what it was in the first movie that people liked so much. There is more focus (of such an adult manner in such a wonderfully subversive way, down to the non-traditional marriage that many of the assf*cks who voted Yes on H8 here in California will probably be giggling or whining about) on the penguins as well as giving Sasha Baron Cohen (as the king of the lemurs) more license to infuse the big-eyed character with more of his bizarre personality.

It is in those things that the movie thrives. The introduction to a couple of new characters, including the long lost father of Alex the Lion (Ben Stiller) as voiced by the late and great Bernie Mac, and the deep-voiced and very fat hippo Moto Moto (as voiced by Will.i.am) are great. Alec Baldwin as a variation on his "30 Rock" character in lion form would put Scar to shame. The Pompadour mane is a kicker.

There is less of Chris Rock and yet more of him, Ben Stiller seems to be channeling his TROPIC THUNDER character in Alex and David Schwimmer gets more of an opportunity to turn his hypochondriac giraffe into something with more depth.

All in all, a funny version with some newer and cooler characters that won't be painful for parents to sit through when they take their kids.
