The Witness of two greats...once again.
Favorite Movie Quote: "Yeah, but if your boy come in here and go Hannibal Lecter on my ass, I don't want no Jodie f*cking Foster coming through the door. I want the goddamn Marine Corps, man."
Lots of haters expecting another classic film like Heat. I mean what else would you expect out of a Pacino and DeNiro film? I knew going in that this was not Heat but yet I would watch a live action film of Barney if these two great actors graced the screen together.
.50 Cent aka Curtis Jackson really turned me off being in this film. Again this was still not enough for me to not check it out. Besides having DeNiro and Pacino in the film you have two other great actors being John Leguizamo, which of course starred in Carlito's Way with Pacino and then the veteran Brian Dennehy.
When the Rambo reference was made by DeNiro to Brian Dennehy my heart pumped so hard with excitement that I had to rewind the scene to watch again. I'm just that film nerd that loves when they make small references in films about classic films....and you know Rambo is one of my favorites period.
Other then that the film suffers from that average good cop / bad cop plot that has lingered around since the 80's. Take any serious cop drama and mix it with Mr. Brooks (which was a way better film) and you have Righteous Kill. The point being is that to see so many scenes of dialogue with Pacino and DeNiro is worth the two hours even if the rest of the movie disappeared.
So yes the film could have been better. The so called movie "twist" ending was rather predictable and weak....however they did do ONE thing absolutely perfect.....
In the film Heat of course Pacino shoots DeNiro and holds his hand while he dies. During the chase in Heat all you can hear is airplanes flying overhead which really adds to the scene.
In Righteous Kill DeNiro gets to kill Pacino and during the end sequence you hear trains moving around in the background drowning out the other background noise and gracefully, DeNiro gets to accompany Pacino for his final seconds until he departs to the other world.
