Movie Review by Zara
August 6th, 2008

I deducted half a star for the stupid story line, happy ending that they give Lina (Alexis Bledel) and her Greek man person.

Other than that, the SISTERHOOD held up rather strongly. I'd been anti watching the first movie and was very surprised at how much I ended up liking it that when some free time landed in my lap this morning, I decided to go take in a show of the sequel. The actresses are all stronger (including Bledel, who normally emotes like a block of wood), but in particular Amber Tamblyn really gets a chance to shine. That "weird" girl who is afraid of happiness might be a cliche, but she gets it to come off amazingly believable.

The other two actresses are superior as well, from America Ferrera grasping tightly onto a character who can be emotionally timid but morally formidable to Blake Lively who might be more well known for the titillating television show "Gossip Girl" than she is the bright and fearless athlete in this movie, searching for understanding after her mother's suicide.

Yeah, it's a chick flick. But it's smart, the characters aren't push-overs or doormats and while they focus on understanding love, it isn't the search for love that defines them. It's what they happen to find while being themselves.

I flicked past the first movie the other day on cable and contemplated watching it, but that Alexis bird gets right on my t*ts.
