Craptacular.
Really, in order to understand some of what is going on in this movie, you have to have read the comics that were released post the original. The people at Warner Brothers allowed the story to continue on, which helps to know if you want to connect the inexplicable dots that they scatter around in this flick.
Back in the late '80's when Feldman was a teenager, I can understand him forcing his voice to sound so deep. Continuing to do it in the role of Edgar Frog for this film, one in which he's an adult, comes of comical in one of the least funny, Dane Cook unfunny kind of ways.
The other bummer is that Corey Haim, the Corey that I was actually looking forward to seeing in this movie is relegated to a very small and completely disconnected portion. It's but a snippet in the movie (although you can see him twice more in the two alternate endings, both of which are also disconnected from the movie as a whole) and it reminds me of how they documented on "The Two Coreys" that Haim f*cked up so badly on set that he doesn't even get billing in the main credits.
As for the movie itself, I think a lot of what was so exciting and so mysterious when we were kids and liked the first flick is long since past its expiration date. We know what's coming and the actors deliver it to us in a clunky, Abercrombie kind of way. They're not scary. They look more concerned with how their apparel fits them and if their hair is tussled just right. Tad Hilgenbrink (last making me cringe in the AMERICAN PIE: BAND CAMP movie) truly is one of the worst actors of his generation.
For camp factor, I'll give the movie a few points. For the gore factor, I'll admit that they tried their best. But give me the original any day of the week. Partly because of the nostalgia thing and partly because I really feel it was actually good.
